We don't get flocks either. Usually one chases the other off.....yesterday was the first time I had one on each side of the feeder, both were hovering though, not dining.

Nice shots!!! What kind of hummingbird is that? We only get ruby throated in our neck of the woods.

Thanks! Don't know the type of hummingbird. Will try to get better photos, later this week. Fast little critters. Just don't like posing.

Very nice Wind! What camera settings did you use for these shots? Just from looking I would suggest trying a RAW image with a shutter priority of 1/500 sec and auto ISO. If you don't have LightRoom or Photoshop you need it.

Hi everyone. Windhund, I think your bird looks like a Rufous Hummingbird. You picture caught my attention because we had one here in Central FL a couple years ago. He got turned around migrating and ended up here instead of where he should have been. I contacted a hummingbird specialist and he said our little friend was a juvenile male Rufous. We were the envy of all the local birders! This was him. I even planted an entire hummingbird garden for him in case he showed up again, but we only have the normal Ruby Throated, which are beauties.

Yes, I was going to say it's a female, but immature male works, too. The ruby throat is only on the males, BTW.

Lainey, I think it's a Rufous Hummingbird,as gens2K stated. They have a crazy migration trek!

Gary, it's a Sony A6500 set to Auto ISO. 70-300mm zoom, at 300mm. f/4.5. No flash. At 5-6AM, it's been pretty low light. With all the morning fog. Here's today's photo.

All our feeders, seed, suet and hummingbird are getting a lot of activity. 5-6 gold finches at a time, plus other birds as well. The grackles are back. I hang the suet upside down, but they are still getting into it. I may not replace it for a few days to see if they move on. They wipe out the suet in no time at all.
