We have a pair of Sandhill Cranes that are year round residents in our area.
Both those close ups are killers.

Thanks! Love your photo too!

We were out and about tonight, saw a great blue heron. I didn't have the big zoom on the camera, but I may have a shot or two to share, though the blue heron is not one of my backyard birds.....

Love the hummingbird! And that Crane! Great shots!

My Rufous seemed to be heading north. Waiting for others to replace him.

Enjoying watching the pelicans flying around here at the beach. Haven't seen one dive for a fish yet, though.

Thanks folks.

As Morris mentioned, iPhones are great for spying on nests! I use mine to watch the baby (Carolina) wrens in a nest on a shelf in the tack room. The parents have nested there for years.

We were lucky enough back in 2012 in the FL panhandle area, to have seen a pelican feeding frenzy. When we got home, and zoomed in on the pics, they were feeding on crabs.

Love the pelicans! We saw many on our recent trip to SC, but didn't capture any photos.

Female house finch.

The grackles have been back. They wiped out a suet cake in about a day. One of them was hanging in a position that they could get at it relatively easy, vs hanging it upside down as Mike (lovesto drive) had suggested. I replaced both suet cakes yesterday, just checked them and not much has been consumed. I'm not sure how much seed they (grackles) may be eating, but if the seed disappears quickly, I'll mix in a heavy amount of safflower. If I recall, they don't like safflower seeds.

A sad story. For the last week we have been watching a young Blue J hoping around the garden with an attentive parent always near by. I'm sad to say that yesterday morning he laid his head down in the grass and died. The parent stayed for a couple on minutes and then flew away. I know it's a bird, a wild one at that, but it still makes me want to cry. Life, all life, is precious.
