Default Anyone here a WW2 airplane, units fan?

Book due out early next year, on Japanese anti-submarine aero units. Promises to ably cover an obscure topic, that very little has ever been written about.

I told you it was obscure. Just what just history geeks love!

Obscure, indeed. It may worth reading to understand the utter failure of IJN ASW forces to prevent what actually happened. Hopefully, the authors will discuss any successes as well as failures.

Well, you know it wasn't too successful, when the cover has a drawing of a "borrowed" German Ju-88. Not any indigenous designs.

Junkers Ju85, Ju88, Ju288, Ju388 and Ju488... Ideas and Inspiration

WW2 is pretty fascinating. Always has intrigued me. The hardware, the men, the challenges and campaigns, what was at stake and the experimental technology being discovered and utilized for the first time.

I was assigned to an Air Anti-submarine warfare squadron detachment while I was in the Navy 64-68. Assigned to the Navy base in San Diego on Coronado Island where we conducted training of the pilots. P3's were the planes that were flown.

Yeah, you have to be a history nut. Nice that they are writing books on more obscure planes, units, battles, etc. Instead of re-writing the same stuff over-&-over, like the 1980-90s. And propagating the same boo-boos.

Was going to post about a new book on Japanese aero engines of WW2, but that maybe too much.

You want obscure facts about Japanese WW2 stuff I worked with the second cousin of Sheigo Fukumoto who shot down 70+ aircraft and survived the war to be killed in a traffic accident in 1945. He is just about invisible in most records of the war. We even had a noted expert in aces of the Japanese military on the case and very little could be found. he was in Rabaul and a couple of picture exist but even his family has minimal info

This is a real gem of a book:

"Midway" The battle that doomed Japan by Mitsuo Fuchida/Masatake Okumiya.

Not what you think on first blush. The United States Naval Institute made this book happen immediately after the war. The authors are former a former Captain and Commander of the Imperial Japanese Navy servings as COs of attacking Pearl Harbor Squadrons, Midway Battle, and staff on the homeland. Insider view of the war. Almost makes you root for them. Fascinating stuff from those who were there on the other side.
