Thanks, for asking! It's the nickname of a rather famous Panzer unit in WW2. Windhund = greyhound in German. 116 = the Panzer Division. They were involved in Normandy campaign, Hürtgen Forest, Battle of Bulge, Ruhr River Pocket battles.
To make a long story longer.... been a history nut for several decades now. I did some proof reading for a JJ Fedorowicz Publications, in Calgary. For some work on a German translated Kursk book --- I got a signed autograph of "From Normandy to the Ruhr." By Heinz Günther Guderian. CO of the unit from May through August 1944 and Nov 1944 through to the end. Kinda neat.
I've been an uninterested history student for most of my life. Within the past month I became much more interested in WWII after reading "The Nightingale" and I've also become interested in learning from living people who experienced it in some way. I volunteer with a spunky, funny, loving, sweet spirited woman, Jean Mastropietro, who is 87 years-old. She told me about her experiences as the wife of a man stateside in the war who she's been married to for 67 years. After 33 years with a Jewish boyfriend/husband I learned from his family. I'm all ears.
