My 02 does not have the necessary holes on the passenger side. So this is not 100% accurate.

I did not install the mounting brackets. I just lay the carpets on the floor and adjust its position once a while. It works fine for me.

Yes. The holes do not fit and I just lay the carpets there.

You can use an adhesive like Shoe Goo or epoxy to mount the brackets to the frame. The supplied brackets keep the mats in the perfect position.

It's possible that only the driver side was updated with the two floor mat anchors.

I didn't have any problems with mine, but I pulled my OEM anchors out four or five years ago when I got my first set of the floor mats.

Just received my mats yesterday for MY00. Super easy installation.

Here's how I did my install.
Set brackets over hump, I did NOT cut any carpet.
Install front mat and place it exactly where you want it.
Ensure brackets are lined up correctly and the mats fit into the pegs.
I used self tappers to install the bracket onto hump.
Remove front mat, install mat that goes over the bracket and hump, re-install front mat.
Enjoy.

I'll get some pics up of the brackets installed but it was super simple to just place the bracket over the carpet and self tap into place.

I too have a MY00 and considered this but was concerned that the self-tapping screws would not remain tight with a piece of carpet between the bracket and car floor. I suspect that's why the plastic inserts are used. I'll be curious to hear if they do remain snug - would be the simplest approach for those of us with early cars.
