So what beach is this "Beach Bar" on? We went back to work/reality, every day is not a weekend for us, yet. What is keeping us going is that we are both old enough to collect SS, so if we have a bad day, we might just say "take this job and............."

A small lake. But, there's a beach somewhere. Mostly its boaters and party people, imagine that. Sunday and Wed. night is party night, if you're free.

Beach Bar & Restaurant

This will be my first attempt at photographing an eclipse and I’m hoping for the best, and It may be the only attempt to witness and photograph a once in a life time event, unless I’m willing to travel to Argentina.

The remaining astronomical events on my “bucket list” is the viewing and capture if the Aurora Borealis. Maybe this fall/winter.

Good luck to both, Gary! I've got a checklist, too. It keeps growing.

Gary, if you could see it at Iguazu Falls in Argentina, that would be a once in a lifetime experience for sure!! So spectacular. They are like another wonder of the world. It appears the eclipse in Argentina will be July 2019 and total will be farther south than the falls, which are on the border between Argentina and Brazil. But, to me, they are worth a visit anytime! Toucans flying everywhere in the jungle and paths throughout to see many of the falls close up. Also river tours which take you up close and personal. I traveled there with my ex many years ago and it remains one of my all time favorite trips. Truly amazing...

This weekend will be a fairly quiet one for me. The +1 leaves Fri for two weeks with his kids up at Grandma's in NJ. So I will be using the time to clear out closets, etc in prep for the start of the pipe replacement project in our unit in Sept (for gory details, see my thread on the subject).

Not a weekend gathering, but tomorrow evening after work, we will be getting together with my local sister, several cousins and spouses in a little cottage near the beach. My cousin and his wife who live in NC have rented the cottage and invited us over for a cookout. Should be fun. Haven't seen some of these folks in a while.

Saturday night we are hosting a small group of NE S2000 folks for a pizza and garden party. We used to do a cook out and found it was just too much work and provided too little time to socialize. Now Rick makes a salad, we serve some nibbles, and then we buy pizza from a local favorite spot. Looking forward to it.

If we feel like hanging with P car people on Sunday, the car museum in Newport/Portsmouth RI is having a cars and coffee in the AM and expecting a group of P car people. I think S2000 people are more fun, doubtful we will attend, but we'll see. We'd be the paupers of the group with our poor man's Porsche. Rick refers to it as the "cheap" Porsche....vs other models. Not sure we want to roll out of the house early on Sunday AM after hosting the party on Saturday night.

Jay Pashachoff…wow! he’s definitely “Mr. Eclipse”. Enjoy your time with the group.

Gary-

Here is an exposure matrix. These times are based on using a S" f/6 refractor at prime focus, glving an effective FL= 762mm.

As you can see, no exposure time on this chart requires a tracking mount even if you are using 600mm telephoto lens.

F# 2.8 4 5.6 8 11
Bailey's Beads Diamond Ring NA 1/8000 1/4000 1/2000 1/1000
Prominences 1/8000 1/4000 1/2000 1/1000 1/500
Inner Corona 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/15 1/30
Middle Corona 1/30 1/15 1/8 1/4 1/2
Outer Corona 1/2 1 2 4 8

According to a matrix of shutter speeds and F#s for Bailey's Beads, diamond ring, prominences, and inner/middle/outer corona, with a zoom lens and 1.4 teleconverter at 840mm, I'll be shooting at F9. I'll be ready for Bailey's Beads, diamond ring at 1/2000, then prominences at 1/1000, then the corona at 1/15-4 seconds, with bracketing of course.

No such thing as a cheap Porsche.

Another great Michigan weather forecast for tomorrow so we're off to Saugatuck on the west shoreline of the state. It's one of those "Lainey's Towns" where she would not be able to put the camera away. We have not been there in a few years so I am looking forward to it. It will take us 2.5 to 3 hrs to get there on back roads in the MG. Just a day trip cause its too nice to stay home and we are waiting for our dog sitter to return so we can take longer ones.
