They wouldn't need one. Honda could walk into court and take it, via their history of use and common perception of the term. I'm surprised they haven't.

Hoo boy, I wonder if the Honda attorney's have seen that? I speak with one of the in-house counsel's about 3 times a year in Torrance and she's pretty reasonable, but also hard assed when she needs to be (I believe she's the one who responded to Rick's request to license some logos).

They have already filed suit against some sites (www.superhonda.com being one) and forced them to stop using the name. However, their approach has been to target sites that are particularly offensive, or only those that infringe on the Honda or Acura name. For example, I know that www.vtec.net has contacted counsel at Honda and asked if they would like the name changed. Counsel said no, there's no problem.

But $475k though, wow!

Damn, talk about assholes ... That stink-up corporation should just have the domain snatched away from them based on some government legislation. Who the hell do they think they are to sell the domain name at such a price? Obviously they want Honda Corporation to respond, no joke about that. They're just waiting for that big moment to come. Absolute jerkoffs.

yea, I don't think Honda really cares about the domain since VTEC isn't actually a company and not an actual product that's sold separately, it's just a name. Valve timing has been around for a looooonnnggg time.

I'd be willing to bet that Honda owns a copyright on the term VTEC, in which case they are compelled to defend the copyright infringment, or risk loosing the copyright. For this reason, whether they care about this website or not, they'll go after them.
