I'll say it even though I know that everyone will jump on me, but I got a ticket over the summer in PA. I was caught doing 106mph in a 65mph zone. The cop was nice, and I got off without wreckless, but a $230 ticket. All I can say is I'm 20, and I drive like I turned 80 yesterday. I have fun, when I know that I am not endanging others, most of the time this is on the track, but on the occation I'll play on back roads, by myself. I don't road race, big no no!!!

John man, be careful with yourself. I hope you have learned the lesson that a lot of people learn the hard way.

Will the people who are innocent of an occasional street race please stand up?

Yea, I didn't think so...I bet that just about everyone who has an S2000 has done something they are not particularly proud of...I know I have!

Geez, Jon was looking for some legal advice about a ticket...not to be ragged on. I think he knew what he did was wrong/foolish...and I'm sure he regrets it.

I do, however, agree that racing should be left for the track (headed to Gingerman next weekend! ), not on crowded roadways. But the occasional skirmish is inevitable. Nothing serious happened, live and learn and give the guy a break!

Jon, I wish I could offer the advice you were seeking. I have never gotten a wreckless driving ticket, nor have I gotten a DUI (I realize it wasn't you, but still)...

It sucks when it happens, just make sure it's safe next time (because I promise you, there is always a next time)...I'm not encouraging street racing by any stretch of the imaginiation. Just choose your battle wisely...and that includes a lot of things.

And as far as I'm concerned EVERYONE with an S2000 is welcome at S2KDays...don't let this get in to the way.

The great thing about knowing you can defend yourself and knowing you can out race someone is that it often results in enough self esteem andself assurance that proving (fighting and racing) become unnecessary.

I did martial arts from 14 till my mid-twenties (Kempo, Kyokushin, Aikido) and I know it helped me to avoid many a situation where either my body and/or ego could have been severely bruised.
This is interesting, and I totally agree. After training karate for years, I have nothing to prove to anyone. I find that sparring some of the most talented martial artists in the world is humbling and really regulates my aggressive tendencies. Also, I tend to be more relaxed and comfortable facing big "tough" guys in real-world conflicts. What Aus says is true: why would you want to fight some unskilled moron under conditions where no one will win when you can fight really skilled people and remain friends afterward. I also agree with the analogy to street racing.

Aus, you are an Irvine, right? So am I. Knowing my Scottish family, I tend to think that our clan are natural warriors. All the men in my family are deceptively small and mild mannered, but real pitbulls when it comes down to it.

I hesitate to respond to this thread, as it is very personal for me. In 1988 my brother was killed in a car accident caused by a driver under the influence of marijuana (the "safe" drug)...I have been driving race cars and go-carts and drag cars since I was 13, and even after Jim died I continued to buy sports cars (a '71 Camaro, '76 Corvette, an '85 Corvette, 2 '66 Mustangs, an '85 Mustang, an '89 Mustang, a '98 Mustang, and the '01 S2K sitting in m garage) I occasionally still get on tracks to test cars (my favorite being 50 laps at Dover, DE in a Busch series Taurus to test a new polymer sealant for the head gaskets), and I LIKE fast cars, but I still try to respect the rules of safe driving...If I am in a 45 MPH zone, and stop at a light, I don't mind getting BACK to 45/50 MPH as fast as possible- hehe... Save the 100+ stuff for the track, and if you MUST carve up the streets, make them streets you are familiar with, streets where children do not venture after overthrown balls in their "sandlot" games, and streets you have patrolled for vehicles in trouble, poor conditions, etc...then if you MUST burn it up remember YOU are ultimately responsible for every single result of your actions and leave that lawyer CRAP for Sunday Nights on The Practice!

A good modification of a SCUBA saying: "Plan your Drive and Drive your plan"

drmark, I know you mean well so it's cool. But that "apology" was pretty sorry for someone who blatantly accused me of doing something I did not do. So we move on.

And as for you martial arts guys... why do you feel a need to tell everyone about how you're such the lethal weapon? So you guys have high self-esteem and don't feel a need race, et cetera. But then you guys show up on some car board and shout out your supposedly expert skills in the martial arts. Racing to martial arts? What the hell.

Check yourself.

Now lemme see, it was myself that brought up the martial arts thing, but I don't remember claiming anything more than self esteem. My motto was "You can't win a street fight, you can only lose, or lose worse". Seems the same is true of street racing.

A fellow Irvine from NY backed me up, for which I am greatly appreciative, then a certain lazarus decides to get on the attack about martial arts and bravado.

Do I remember previous clash between Seattle and NY? One in which a certain shakey town resident was all buffo and claiming their kick arse abilities.

I trust in your fighting style you're not as predictable as you are in your discourse Ben.

Why are you bringing up fighting styles on a car board? And how is street racing analogous to fighting? Chill out! And if martial arts gave you the self-esteem you so lacked, why the need to brag about your years of expert martial arts training? Again, on a car board?

JC...
Despite the fact that I think it isnt the brightest idea to be racing on the street, at least in CA, undercovers cannont make a traffic stop; ONLY black and whites can because ONLY black and whites are trained and certified for speed calculation. I dont know what the law is in VA Beach, but you should definately speak with your lawyer to see about whether the stop was illegal.
