rahul will Porter cable pads fit any other random orbital machine in the UK?

I'm seriously thinking of going the RA route, I want something decent which can use good pads

Rahul, I've just been comparing that DeWalt one to the PC:

DeWalt
8400-15200 opm
pad size 150mm
length 320mm

PorterCable
2500 - 6000opm
6" wheel
11.5" long

The DeWalt seems more like a sanding machine to me than a car polisher? I think i'd be frightened using something that wild - what difference would that make? vs the PC

I am thinking of going this route:

one of these: http://www.coastaltool.com/cgi-bin/SoftCar...78d3+1082755937

and these:

I cliked this link since my Porter Cable DA polisher has been in my possesion since Fri afternoon and I wish I had it years ago!

Don't worry about the sander thing since thats exactly what the pc is/could-be, depending on what attachment you have on it.

I contemplated which polisher I should choose and if I would be making more trouble than it was worth. It seems the key thing for amatuers (me; regarding machine polishing) is to get the DA version (DA = Dual Action) rather than the standard high speed polisher. I went with the pc for the cost, durability, and the overwhelming positive reviews by "pro's".

Also keep in mind the array of polishes available. There are thousands (or so it seems) and I chose a simple 2 step solution from Menzerma *sp??*. The pads are readily available and I would suggest the white pads as I had the best results with those. Your particular polish and paint condition will have bearing on what you select. BTW, the pads are held in plce with a hook-n-loop tyoe system and are very easy to change or remove.

Sorry for the long post but some of you sound very much like the position I was in only a few days ago and I couldn't be happier with the results. The DA action of the pc seems to make damage "allmost" tough to do. Sucks you have the diff electrical thing to contend with, but looks like you have the solution there.

Paul

ps. There is a member of the site who has a online care care bussiness and I had excellent service/help from him (plust the price was the same as the co. posted above). The nice thing was being able to order everything from one place If you would like the info feel free to post or pm.

Cheers!

Cheers rahula

Funny - one thing which led me to the question is that on porter cable's site themselves it is listed under "polishers"

The small plug-in adaptor thingy is a known issue to me. Like I said have travelled and lived in many countries so we have used some equipment and these things are excellent for shavers, radios and the like but not heavy machinery like fridges or anything with motors in them. Let us know when you buy a DA polisher and which one you go for.
