Over 40 S2Ks in Lisbon today (warning: long)
The meeting did start up with a hickup!
We had paid the police (brigada de transito in local parlance) to not only clear up the roads for us, but also to lock up a car park from 5AM in town, so that we would have a place to meet everyone could easily access.
At 5AM, LuigiS was at the car park gate to check on the policeman. 5:00 came and went, 5:30 came and went, and at 6:30 he waked up Jorge to tell him the bad news. A few calls to monsieur le commissaire produced a lot of promises and a policeman later on. But by then the car park was already half filled with renault clios, ford focus, etc...
At 11:30, the scheduled start time for the meeting, only 3 cars had turned up. Not to panic, you have to understand that south of the pyrenees schedules are merely indicative.
At 12:00 the sun was out (we're in the depths of winter) and it became clear that the meeting was heading for success.
We got over 40 cars although some did not get there before we left, and met us later at the restaurant.
For the first meeting all we organized was a photo shoot at Torre de Belem, a local touristic icon, lunch, a JR filter ballot and wine tasting at sunset! Next one will include some other events.. stay tuned!
Now, some pictures (sorry, they may take a little while to load...):
Waiting for eveybody to arrive.

At Torre de Belem (16C monument, a true beauty):

The red NSX owner is also an S2K owner. Unfortunately his S2K engine is kaput, and had to stay at home. The price to pay for not checking the oil level in the first few thousand kms! And yes, the oil warning light did not come up. So be warned.

From the top of the Torre de Belem. (Yes, someone did do a donut. And no, the H is not a reference to Honda
)

Another one. In the distance you can see the "Monument to the Discoveries" and the 25th of April Bridge (modeled after the golden gate in SF). Best picture IMHO.

Find anything strange? What about no scarlets? (one did turn up later for the meal...)
to be continued...

... Chapter 2
On the way to the restaurant. The policemen were a great idea! They kept us together through town and stoppped the traffic on redlights to let us thru. We were really grateful and even invited them over for lunch!

At the restaurant (owned by a fellow S2K owner, the Almirante) a 3 course meal was served, including the conspicuous Bacalhau (dry cod)! ... and the JR filter went to Bruno (a member that has been with us in these fora since 1999).

Our two friendly patrol policemen in warm talk with Jorge:

At sunset, the car park at the cellar, lighted by thousands of watts of Xenon lights was a sight to behold.

Congrats Luis, Franando, Jorge and all other involved in planning this apparently awsome event. Only wish i could have been there with my RED baby. It seems like silver and Black are in vast majortiy there. You do have Yellow and Red right? Just not white. Those were some excellent photos, would go well for the proposed S2000 calendar. I especially like the one from Torre de Belem and that last one with the HID's.
Congratulations to all, and i hope you break the 100 mark in the Spring/Summer event.

Cougar,
Yes, they were all Portuguese. I believe there are less S2000s in Spain than in Portugal in spite of being a much larger country.
Honda has here the highest market share of any country in Europe, although, with their current product offering, they are not really competitive when compared with the VW and Ford group. The new Civic may change things but that still remains to be seen.
BTW, are you joining us for the summer meeting in France?
