larger rear rotor suggestions
I'm getting an s2000 off of this site and it has Stoptechs in front BUT stockers in back. Is it possible to get larger rotors and use the stock caliper? The stock rotors look oddly small to me with the big Stoptech up front. Is there a functional advantage to upgrading the rear caliper? Do any aftermarket calipers retain the use of the parking brake?
Thanks in advance,
Jonn

The stoptech kits are specifically designed to be balanced even though only front rotor is larger. They have faq entry on their site for that specific question.
That said, on our cars rear rotors get hot due to lack of cooling. There are some kit options. Plenty of threads about this in this subforum.

this is the baller solution that retains the stock caliper and e-brake.

All 4 choices retain use of the parking brake. My preference would be the SakeBomb Garage kit. However, I ended up getting the Urge kit since SakeBomb didnt have their kit available yet. The J's racing kit ids over priced JDM bling. And Racing Brake has poor customer service/quality control.

The Urge setup will also require you to shave down your pads or start with used pads that are worn enough to fit properly. That's my biggest gripe on the kit. I'd like to be able to have all new components go on the car without having to get creative.

Interestingly, there are quite a few straight-vane discs in this list. A straight-vane rotor does not pump air, and if not fed by an air duct can only radiate heat with more surface area than a solid rotor, but is not actually actively cooling itself with airflow. Also the width of the air gap also matters signifificantly, but no one seems to advertise the air gap (function of rotor width). There are a lot of solutions out there for the stock caliper - which is by nature narrow - (meant for a 12mm solid rotor). The RX8 caliper accepts a 20mm thick disc, which we take full advantage of

the Sakebomb rear rx8 caliper kit does not - it's meant to be used with the Sakebomb AP racing front setup

I'm doing this tonight and it is a PITA. I underestimated the amount of filing it takes to remove .5mm from brake pads. Otherwise the kit is nice.
