Default So what next...

It's been over ten years since I was on here (as S2000 SM... damned if I could reactivate my old account)! Good to see a number of familiar names still lurking (Lovegroova, Gadafi, AquilaEagle)

So... at the risk of inviting general derision and condemnation, after 14 years and 114,000 miles in my second S2000 (26,000 miles in the first one before I wrote it off) I am selling it :-(

Question is, with roughly £30k to spend and wanting something that's a couple of years old, what on early do I get that will be even half as much fun?

I'm tempted by the new shape TTS, but I fear it will be dullsville in comparison.

I don't have enough for a newish Cayman S and I don't want to compromise by selling a 14 year old car to replace it with (say) a 10 year old one... whatever I get will need to last 10 years.

So, putting the calls of madness and treachery to one side, for a moment: serious replies invited. What should I go for?

Hello stranger! Long time no see.
I'm guessing you left Rickmansworth long ago?

Fun? You probably want a Lotus which at least won't rust in 10 years...

Hey mate! Yup... I moved to the South Downs about 10 years ago. I live on the A272 (I didn't know it was one of the best driving roads in the country at the time... that just came as a pleasant surprise)

Evora 400 Great but fixed roof.
Exige S/ 350 Great but a bit too sparse.
F Type V8 Looks and sounds great but let down by the gears.
4C Let down by interior trim and the fact the Exige is a better alternative.
V8 M3 its still a saloon, get over it.
TT RS its still a TT.

The hunt goes on.

Toyota Hachiroku* and a trip to Cosworth for a snail and suspension/brake upgrade.

https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/...dr/first-drive

Prices have seriously fallen out of bed and since it's at a lower price-point to an S2000, it's not as good out of the box. But it's the closest you'll get and actually fun to throw about like you are in a Plod chase, even in standard form. The Eco-tuning ruins the power delivery, but apparently an Zorst and remap fixes that. I just drive around the mid-range bog.

*The chairman of Honda is Hachigo-san and Septics cannot understand why he's referred to as Mr Eightfive!

This is something I'm considering one day. The price is a little potty though once you've bought the car. All in with the charger/wheels/tyres/brakes/suspension it must be on for £15000 on top of about £10000 for a decent GT86. Bet it's a right laugh to drive though, the GT86 has better steering and a slightly better chassis than the S. The issue is it's let down by the crummy tyres, overly long gearing and weirdly asthmatic but revvy engine. You'd have to chuck a good chunk of cash at one to turn it into the car it should have been from the factory IMO.

You wont get an EV400 for anywhere close to that budget. A 370z or M3 is nowt like an S2 and therein is the issue

what is pretty light, rwd, screaming engine, great engineering, simple...?

supposedly the CTR is a decent shout but fwd would rule that out for me

i'd buy an S. low depreciation, known quantity etc. But i'm biased haha
