Why (not how) is S2000 being stolen?

Why (not how) is S2000 being stolen?
I've been pretty vocal about the this topic as of late. Let's see if others can add to this conversation.
Talking points:
- What are the highly valuable parts?
- Are they only compatible w/ S2000, or are they universal
The point of this thread is because the S is such a niche car, with a relatively small community, especially given a small region (NYC, Florida, Bay Area) and MOST of the stolen parts are only compatible with other S's, is the roots of the problem could be solved.
***Let's not discuss theft deterrent, because we all know that's ineffective.
-
1. Hardtops: only compatible with S2000, market value ~ $3400-4000

Seats, wheels, drive train are common "chop shop" specialty items.
Deterrents absolutely work. These are stolen from public streets, driveways, and parking lots. The deterrent is don't park there. I've not seen taken from locked residential garages but there may have been some. And not all S2000 drivers are our brothers. I'm sure those stolen hardtops are not being used as planters or yard decorations.

Why? Because there is a demand for the "cheaper" parts being hacked off the cars? Does that perhaps point to the demographic who own these S2k's?? You don't see P cars being stolen like this for ex - perhaps because those owners can afford the repairs and parts they need? Food for thought. Obviously does not apply to ALL owners...

Why, because S2000 parts are now becoming the "in" thing when retrofitted to other Hondas - Civics, Del Sols, etc, go to any import car show and you will see it happening. Instrument clusters, seats, etc. Also with more replacement parts being discontinued by Honda every week on the S2000, the demand for less costly used parts goes up. Hardtops are quite valuable and easy to sell on the used market as they are out of production. Lastly, some cars are being shipped overseas in whole depending on demand in other countries, as demand goes up the hunters go looking for specific models.

Maybe in NYC, SFO and Florida. All named places are shitholes due to the underbelly associated with each region. Lots of degenerates (and yeah degenerates are everywhere, but more so in the named regions).

Theft "numbers" can be a little distorted because of the relatively small numbers of this car on the road. A few thefts can have a dramatic effect on the theft rate. From the what I have garnered over time is at most a half a dozen are stolen in any year. Compare that to an Accord or Camry.
Perhaps we just take notice when someone on this site shares his or her crime experience that we come away with an impression that our cars are a hot commodity.
Just looking at some numbers by NHTSA.gov (limited view-only 2007 and 2008) there were 7 2007 Ss stolen compared to 389 Civics. For 2008 there were 10 Ss stolen compared to 401 Accords.

7 or eight S2000s have been stolen this summer. I've never seen it this bad, and I've been around for a while.

what's valuable- whole car, engine ($4000 to replace broken originals), seats, 17 inch OEM rims, rare CR parts (bumper, wing, tonneau cover). But we're not innocent here- owners who want to make their AP1 into an AP2 or AP1/AP2 into a CR- creates a cheap market thieves capitalize on. And kids with no money steal shit to put on their own car.
In Vancouver they used bait cars to catch car thieves- the footage is priceless.
But, its not like the civic/acura lego parts swap. And the best theft deterrent is to shoot all car thieves on site…eventually they'll get the message.
