So far very, very fast.

I don't like it that it downloaded itself on my computer without asking my permission. I bought this damn computer and I'll thank Mozilla and Microsoft to keep their hands off of it. The last Windows update took my desktop icons and scrambled them all over the place, plus never telling me what the update did internally. There is no stopping the Windows update unless I edit a file, which feedback says can be dangerous if you make a mistake.

Thanks. I finally got detailed instructions and ran Group Policy Editor and now Microsoft will not download unless I allow it. Will check Firefox, but I think they changed my settings as it has never autoupdated until this time.

I'll bet Firefox has been upgrading itself for as long as you've been using it. Usually transparent to the user.
Back when RAM was hundreds of dollars a Kilobyte "memory hog" had significance. With 16Gigs in your laptop it's not an issue.

^^Nope, it always asks me if I want to upgrade. Sometimes, at the worst times, that darn little box would pop up. I checked under options and the Automatic Updates has been changed to automatically do it. I KNOW I did not change it, but I certainly did change it back to "ask me". I hope this doesn't happen again.

I have never had Firefox update itself automatically. And I only received notice of the new Firefox a few days ago.
My computer is well maintained and I'm not a novice. Bought and ran my companies first mini-computer system (D.E.C.) for $150K in the early 80s and using computers daily since then.
