Market Watch 2018
Since Legal Bill's Market Watch 2017 thread is now dated, I decided to start a new year. Happy New Year. It's happy so far although almost daily for some time now I keep seeing headlines and articles in the Time's, etc. that say this growth can not last with predictions of big drops. But the beat goes on . . . and I'm not complaining. Clearly the changes in the tax rules isn't hurting the market place. Since I'm heavier in bonds then likely anyone of you youngsters (presently 58%), I have not seen as dramatic an increase in the past couple years as many; but I sleep well knowing this can not go on for ever - - or - - can it?

Watching...watching...watching.... I still have not moved that "last" ten percent into bonds and cash. But maybe it will be more than ten percent.

Under places-we're-not-looking-but-I-guess-we're-looking-now: Moneygram International has just signed onto Ripple blockchain (think another version of Bitcoin that sucks less). Given Moneygram's main job, this makes complete sense. I do think any irrational euphoria surrounding Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies/blockchain is the irrational euphoria worth monitoring in terms of a forthcoming correction. The correction *may* not happen due to it, but the sentiment that drives it is the indicator. If there's a large, established company making really unsound moves around crypto (e.g. when the CEO says they're "all in."), batten the hatches.
I'm in your boat too. It'd cost me a lot to time a market correction.

The Oracle of Bolton has a guess. ( note the word guess, do your own research, if you play the market based on my guesses you're an idiot)
Corporate America has been urger ( via regulation) to repatriate offshore assets.
I would suspect the vast majority of those funds to go into stock buy-backs.
The upside if you're holding you can expect a nice return.
The downside will be once the buybacks are complete it will remove buying pressure and you can expect to see a subsequent fall in stock prices.
I'm anticipating buybacks to spread over the next 6-9 months.

With the new tax laws.....
Many firms are looking at investing in the US....
And paying some bonuses.... increasing wages...
I think I'll stay in the market for a bit!
