The flu! Have you been spared, or have you been ill?
The flu is widespread in our area. People are dropping like flies at places of employment, and on a very serious note, people have died. A co-worker was showing symptoms yesterday and I basically banned him from my office. He's out sick today. I used Lysol wipes on the doorknobs into my office and the shop.
The flu vaccine was not particularly effective for this years strain, however it's all the protection one can get, and you can hope for a less severe case if you do contract the flue, if you've had the vaccine.
Some folks are delayed in the diagnosis, so the antivirals prescribed for the flu won't be prescribed as it's too late. My cousin's teenage grandson was first diagnosed with a "cold", back to Urgent Care a few days later, and he was told he had the flu, but it was too late for him to be prescribed the medication, now he has pneumonia. Pneumonia is a common complication of the flue. A long time friend works in a lab at the hospital, she said 50% of the samples she tested yesterday were positive for the flu.
I've stocked up on my hand sanitizer at the office, I have travel size hand sanitizer in my purse, my car and my gym bag. Touching weights for a class that may have been used by someone who was carrying the flu virus is not a good thing. I wash my hands frequently and for a longer period of time. I guess I'm doing all I can to avoid the flu.
What about you? Have you or your loved ones been sick with the flu?

Neither goBlue nor I have gotten the flu this year, nor any other years, that I know of, either.
We do both get flu shots. I got mine the middle of October.
Apparently, flu is widespread this year here in Ohio, too.
Here is an article that was in our local paper two weeks ago.

I'm fighting a cold with Zicam but no flu here. I never got the flu shots until it was required of me in order to volunteer in the hospital. I'm kind of glad for that requirement. I think I've had it for the past 4 seasons.
