For those of you who have been around awhile here, you know about my renovation exploits of my condo kitchen and two baths during the timeframe 2007-2010, for which I had threads of all the work on those projects. Well, in conjunction with an unplanned complete water pipe replacement of our two buildings, I have to completely remove and replace all the bathroom tile in the guest bath. I had thought I could get away with just removing/replacing tile on the fixture wall where the risers and laterals are located, but two contractors, including the one I have chosen to do the restoration, said that removing the one wall would destroy the waterproof seal and therefore the integrity of the shower. So it's big project time again! Here is the thread from the original renovation. Pics of the completed bath as of 2008 are on the last two pages.
I will be posting progress and pics for the restoration as it happens. Project will start somewhere around Feb 20. I will post pics of the pipe replacement in the bath in that thread, and pics of the removal/restoration of tile in this one. I am keeping the vanity, top, mirror, lights and toilet. I am replacing the shower door with a frameless one. All the tile you see in the original thread will be replaced, including the shower walls, floor, and bathroom floor. Sad to see all that beautiful Carrara destroyed, but c'est la vie.
Here are examples of the two tiles I picked for the bath - the subway tile (4x12) is for the shower walls and threshold, and the basketweave for the shower and bathroom floors. Both are polished and the basketweave is much whiter than this pic, so they look very nice together. I am also changing the paint to one that is still gray but without the blue undertones.
Deb, I really like the tiles that you have chosen for your "new" bathroom.
I especially like the one that you have chosen for the shower walls. In fact, it looks almost identical to the one that we finally chose for the walls around our bathtub/shower and a half wall for our recent remodel. Our tile on those walls is 5 X 14, though, also polished.
On the floor we have the same tile, but in 12 x 24, and not polished.
I'm so sorry that you have to go through all of this, but I look forward to the finished product.
Thanks...I remember the chat we had about polished vs honed and mixing the two. I was not sure about using polished on the floor, since it could be slippery. But the tile salesperson said that with so much grout on the floor, it would not be a problem.
Boy can I feel your pain in the bathroom redo. Yesterday our contractor demoed our master shower to replace all of the tile. When they grouted the tile originally it came out all different colors. Now, after much arguing, they are replacing everything. What a mess! I can't wait fir it to be done and over!
About three weeks and counting until pipe work starts. Tile man coming Wed to firm up all the details related to the design and shower/floor tile work. Then I will order the tile I picked out. My living room will be a mess for awhile with all the tile and everything else in it, but once it is done, I think I will like the results.
No...the pic is from the kitchen renovation in 2007. Not planning on redoing that!! There will be some pipe work in there, but not in the areas where cabinets/tile are.
