I tried to read the 80+ page thread that is stickied for S2K exhausts... sorry guys my eyes glazed over.

Asking for your recommendation for a 'mature' exhaust for my 04 S2000. Key notes:

1. Power train is not otherwise modded, want to have dual tips for good looks
2. California car, street car, need OEM Cat to pass smog
3. Not expecting any power gains (not so naive!)
4. Don;t want any appreciable drone/ricey/raspiness - prefer a bassy sound, fairly quiet when driving easy, sounds sporty when on the throttle
5. While I don't expect any performance gains, reducing some weight would be real nice

Nvidia Q300? Megan?

Any advice or recommendations would be welcome. Thanks

It's a pricey option, but the Mugen exhaust is just about perfect.

This is true. If you don't have the coin for Mugen, then Tanabe Medalion Touring is right up your alley. I've owned both, and they are exactly what you are looking for. You will gain that low bass that you desire with the Tanabe and shed 10lbs of weight. The Mugen further cuts down the bass and sheds even more weight.

Tanabe Medalion Touring dual. These have round tips but compliment my 2006 nicely. Never did like the Accord oval tips on the car.

A buddy has this exhaust on his 2002 car as well.

Find the Mighty Car Mods episode where they fit the (horrible, awful, droning) Invidia Q300 and you note it takes less than an hour to remove the OEM exhaust and fit a 4-piece aftermarket exhaust. My buddy and I both fitted the Q300 and neither lasted on our cars more than 3 or 4 weeks due to horrible, loud noise. Shipping from CA to OH is the only reason the Q300 exhausts were on the car so long.

Thanks for input guys... any idea of the weight of the three recommended exhausts? (Mugen vs Milltek vs Tanabe vs stock)?

May be worth spending more $ if the more expenive ones are a good bit lighter...

My Milltek with the round tail pipes weighted in at 19kg or close to 42lbs.
It's a fairly thick gauge steel and 70mm main piping so not much weight saving over stock which I think is around 50lbs.

Skip the cheeseburgers for a month and don't worry about the exhaust weight. (Literally any aftermarket exhaust is lighter than the OEM.)

I can't find the official weight of the Tanabe Medalion Touring but they tout thin wall tubing and hollow hangers for minimum weight. Ain't Titanium but ain't $2000 either.

I'm fortunate to have one of the first Gernby (Gernzhaust) exhausts and can attest to the performance and sound. If I was to spend the money again I'd get the Urge single, but that's only because I'm biased to the gern-pipe. Lucky for you... they also make a dual.
