Non genuine subframe bolts
Hi everyone.
I've been having some trouble with the geo on my 2000 ap1 track car. so I've bought a set of subframe collars to fit, gone to do the job and found that someone has been at it before and broken the captive nuts, so now alot of the bolts are loose, I'm having this issue sorted out (cut and weld) but my question is can I use non genuine bolts? There's an 8 week wait on them from honda.
Does anyone happen to know the exact specs of the bolts to source some non genuine ones for now and if needed replace with genuine later on.
I can get 8.8 high tensile with correct thread but I'm not sure if this is enough.
Many Thanks

I doubt you could find non oem subframe bolts in the correct thread and length.
Honda use 10.9 grade bolts on most suspension parts and you can check the correct length in the parts diagram here for example https://www.hondapartsnow.com/parts-...ross-beam.html
Maybe you should check the availability from there as well since I'm guessing the 8 week was from Honda Europe?
Hondapartsnow do ship to Europe with all costs included, I ordered from there myself.

No. 8.8 bolts are significantly weaker than the class 10.9 bolts that honda uses.
I don't know if you can find flange bolts in that thread size and length from somewhere.
Check McMaster Carr. But...you probably won't find them. I'm going to guess they are special bolts.
Also....dont over torque them like a maniac when you do get some.

As the resident forum curmudgeon, I'd just chime in that while 8 weeks wait is INSANE, this is not an area where I'd tolerate any kind of failure by going non-OEM -- the stakes are way too high and it's a critical safety area.
I'd figure out a way to get OEM bolts.

I agree.
