Even if I knew the turns in my sleep, I don't think I could ever bring myself to go that fast. Stuff is coming up blindly at just a ridiculous rate.

The rumors were true. The new 911 GT3 RS just ran a bonkers 6:56.4 at the Nurburgring Nordschliefe with factory driver Kevin Estre at the wheel, beating the mighty 918 Spyder. For additional context, that's 24 seconds quicker than the previous GT3 RS and over 16 seconds quicker than the new GT3. That also makes the GT3 RS the third quickest road car to ever lap the Nordschleife, behind just the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and the 911 GT2 RS.

My God that sound is intoxicating. Much of the long uphill section he is taking at a steady 160+ mph. Through the first carousel at 65 mph.

I can't find the article but someone from Porsche said they had 2 drivers each with 2 laps and all ran times within a tenths of a second from each other. Mind blowing that 2 different driver's can drive a 12.9 mile course and be within tenths of a second. I get cross eyed thinking about that... This is both a testament to the driver's and Porsche.

I should also add that the Performante ran the long straight at 189mph and the gt3rs hit 178mph. That shows just how amazing this chassis is in the corners. The Performante also has active aero while the GT3RS is still on fixed aero. Absolutely BONKERS!

edit: found the link to the article ---
https://presse.porsche.de/prod/presse_pag/PressResources.nsf/Content?ReadForm&languageversionid=848187&hl=model le-news

And here's the quote ---

“All four lap times of both drivers were below seven minutes and only tenths of a second apart. This proves not only the outstanding power of the GT3 RS, but also its extraordinary driveability at the limit. A perfectly composed overall system allows for highly dynamic performance even with a relatively modest engine power. For a driver, each of the car’s thousands of parts have to feel like one – that’s an unbeatable strength of the GT3 RS. And what especially delights me is how much fun Lars and Kévin had when driving that car.” - Andreas Preuninger, Director GT Model Line

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can get an allocation through my dealer. Should know soon. Think I have to go with the launch color of Lizard Green. Car is crazy, might as well go with a crazy color.

yeah, I saw a guy offering a (used) previous gen gt3 rs for near $270k. But, if you could get one for Msrp that would be awesome as it would be worth over 100k more than that right away.

I wonder how much newer tire tech had to do with this improvement over the prior generation RS (and the 918's time!). That is absurdly fast.

Pulling from the same article above (https://presse.porsche.de/prod/press...l=modelle-news) it seems as if they had new tires developed by Michelin.

For easy reference:
GT2RS - Pilot Sport Cup 2 'N2'
918 - Pilot Sport Cup 2 'N0'
GT3RS - Pilot Sport Cup 2 R 'N0'

Just judging by the name, it's an upgraded version of the 918's tires? I did a quick search at rennlist and it doesn't seem anyone has any idea about it. Maybe someone here has heard about this topic in more detail though?

Here's the quote:
"At the Nürburgring the 911 GT3 RS was equipped with the latest generation of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. Optimised especially for track day use, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R is fully compliant with relevant EU and US law. The tyre (265/35 ZR 20 front and 325/30 ZR 21 rear) can soon be ordered at every Porsche Centre and selected dealers or tyre fitters. Its approved fitments include 911 GT3 RS and 911 GT2 RS."

50k over might still be a good deal if the resale is as good as it should be.

If I get an RS allocation, I will trade in the GT3. If I don’t get an RS allocation , I will happily keep the GT3. I love it. I installed a GRP/BBi center muffler muffler bypass and the exhaust sound is just incredible. Here is a short clip running down the front straight at COTA:
