I'm first time changing my diff oil. I've read in old threads different suggestions. My dealer uses 80w90. Here on the board I've read that 75w140 is also recommended, as was stated that 80w90 is thinner than the original sae 90...

My options are: 80w90 or 85w140 oil.

What is the current recommendation? Thanks!

I use 75w110 Amsoil. Have used 75w90 as well.

My recommendation is to use a 50/50 mix of 75W-90 and 75W-140
I would have used a 75W-110 if it was easier to obtain here in Sweden.
Whatever you use make sure it's GL-5 rated.

Search is your friend. There are tons of threads on this - some quite recent.
I use Amsoil 75/110. But, I honestly don't think it amounts to a hill of beans as long as you don't go thinner than oem.

A comparison to the original SAE90 is now a 110 fluid. I ran Lubrication engineers SAE110, but that can be hard to find in small amounts. Amsoil 75w110 is a pretty good option over the dealer 80w90, though the dealer 80w90 is perfectly acceptable. Being synthetic the Amsoil offers good hot and cold temp protection should you drive your car in cold temps. I know my SAE110 was really thick in cool temps.

Been using Mobil One 75W-140, for the last three years. No problems. Change yearly, along with transmission fluid.

How small are you looking for? One quart of LE1605, which is actually more than the differential capacity, is readily available direct from LE. About $25 delivered to your front porch.

Been running this the past 4 years.
