Inspecting Transmission before install
I bought an AP2 transmission probably 5 years from a low mileage accident part out. I had every intention of swapping out my AP1 transmission for this one, but money and schedule kept pushing this back and I decided to just beat on the AP1 trans until the clutch or trans failed. At this point, I am close to getting the original trans out but before I put in this AP2 trans I've had sitting, is there any preparation or checks I can do with it outside the car? Maybe attach the shifter and make sure I can get it into gears? Just want to do my due diligence before I get it back in. Thanks!

If you really want a great test, spin the tailshaft with a drill. Once up to speed, run the shifter through the gears 6-1 and back up.
The trans shafts will be easier to get moving in 6th gear, then go 5-4-3-2-1, Then 2-3-4-5-6.

I've seen Bill use this technique on my trans.
