SOS Clutch for turbo?
Anyone run the SOS Sport 400 Hybrid clutch on a turbo S2k? I'm doing the PTuning kit this winter and need a new clutch. Shooting for 500-600whp.
Car is a 2005 with 150k miles and worn stock clutch. Not looking to go crazy with a twin disk setup.
From my research, the ACT pressure plate with stock disk, or the SOS Sport 400 would be good options.
What about the flywheel? Is it worth swapping to a lightweight flywheel? I don't want to ruin the drivability from using too light of a flywheel.

On AP2 DEFINITELY get the lightest flywheel you can find. I have the act prolite its around 8lb absolutely zero driveability issue or flywheel chatter. I have a few videos of the act heavy duty pressure plate, oem clutch and lightweight flywheel driveability on my build thread. Also heads up SOS usually turns up a good black friday deal so be on the lookout.

Light flywheels make chatter worse....
That being said, anything over 500, depending on the tq, a twin disc is highly recommended. Any single is gonna be at or near its limit.

I love my sos carbon twin disc clutch. It can handle any amount of power and it drives like stock with a nice light pedal. It drive great in Los Angeles stop and go traffic. It drives better than my old act hdss clutch. And light years better than any single disc puck style clutches.
a ptunning turbo kit with the standard gen2 gtx3076r turbos can easiely make over 600whp. At this power level you will smoke the act or sos single disc clutches. You really only have a few options.
1. Pony up up and get the sos twin disc and enjoy perfect stock like drivability at 600+whp
2. save money and get a single disc puck style clutch like the act 6 puck or competition stage 4 and deal with the really crappy drivability.
3 buy the act pressor plate/oem disc or the sos single disc clutch but limit your max whp to the low 500,s. You will get great drivability with a heavy clutch pedal.
and yes you should always get a light flywheel especially if you have the crazy heavy ap2 flywheel. It will drive way better and rev up and drop revs way faster. The ap1 flywheel is super cheep and drives great. This is also another thing you won’t have to buy with a twin disc since they all already come with light weight flywheels.

Treimche your shooting for 500-600whp and installing the PTuning kit means you aren't doing a stage 1 build starting with ID1000 and 255. Means you're going for stage 2 at least ID1300 and Walbror 450 and E85. So why not put in the best clutch. I haven't install my Ptuning kit yet still compiling parts and have similar goals but that twin disk is 2 or 3 times more than everything other clutch setup and all the money you already spent. Does it justify it, Riceball keeps talking up that SOS twin disk up.
I'm more a set it and forget it guy at this point in life. I think that's what you are paying for. If I had a slipping clutch in the middle of summer its not getting done til winter and even then It may be a month job for me.

I run the SOS Sport Hybrid 400 clutch. It’s supposedly rated for 400tq. My turbo setup put down 617whp/442tq on a DynoJet. The clutch has been holding up well for over 3k miles with no signs of slippage. S2000442 uses the same clutch as well. Do you really want to spend $2400 on a clutch kit? Lol.

See I really don't want to spend $2500 on a clutch kit. If its absolutely necessary, then yes I will. If someone wants to donate a SOS carbon twin disc I would install it and run it very happily. It's just a huge chunk of money to add on top of the turbo kit, EMS, fuel system, etc. If people are successfully running the SOS Sport 400 with power levels like @soulicious and @s2000442 then it should work for me as well.
I'll definitely weigh the costs of a new clutch and flywheel versus a high end twin disc setup. If the price difference is marginal, then the twin disc is a no brainer, but if its like $1000 difference, then that's something to think about.

Act pro light flywheel advocate here too. The engine character enhancement aside, a light flywheel/less rotating engine mass will relief some duty from the clutch, effectively increasing its capacity to hold more power. Going from a 22lb to a 8lb is hugely significant. If your pushing the threshold of the power rating, this is only going to help. I ran one for years and loved it, but then got another s2k with the stock ap1/14lb in it and though its not the ridiculous boat anchor in the ap2, I still notice the lack of engine response I was accustom too and miss it a lot.

With these super light flywheels, do people have issues with the engine stalling when pushing the clutch in, slowing to a stop? Back in my DSM days, I had to be careful when doing that otherwise the car would stall out often. Guessing if its an issue, the guy who tunes the car should be able to tune for that?
