Hey Gang,

Finally bought a nice pair of AP2v2 wheels for my 02 AP1 (stock suspension). Plan to buy some nice summer tires and take it up to the mountains a few times a week. Seeing what your thoughts and opinions/ experiences were regarding tire size for this setup.

Options are:
Option 1 - OEM AP2 tire sizes (Front: 215/45/17 - Rear: 245/40/17)
Option 2 - Larger Rear (Front: 215/45/17 - Rear: 255/40/17)
Option 3 - Larger Front & Rear ( Front: 225/45/17 - 255/40/17)


I am leaning towards Option 1 or 2... Any recommendations? Pros/Cons.. Would love to hear your opinions.

I have an 02. When I was using 17" wheels my preference was for 1 or 2. I don't like the bigger front tires. I tried it but I did not like it. The bigger rear tires I can take it or leave it, depends a bit on the specific tire because the treadwidth differs. I like the narrower fronts for street driving because I prefer the steering feel and all the modern summer tires have plenty of grip for street driving so sizing up for more grip is not necessary in my opinion, (actually this applies to the rear tires as well). If you are driving motorcross or track that is a completely different story with different considerations that others here know a lot more about than I do.

Some of the summer tires are narrower than others in the same sizes. So, with the Indy 500 for example, I might go with option 2. But with the S-04s I would stick with option 1. This is just my personal opinion obviously. To some extent, you just have to experiment and see what you like.

Ok so if I did want to go with Option 2 (215 F, 255 R) any tire recommendations?

I'm running and happy with Option 2 (215F/255R), the CR tire sizes. Bridgestone S-04 tires. This size reduces oversteer a bit. Tire brand choices are as contentious as sizes.

This. You need to check the tire specs before deciding on sizes as they aren't all the same size.

Any of you guys have quick access to a guide of some sort of guide or previous post that will help me decide appropriate tire size/specs to fit a wheel?

I am happy to say that I am a noob regarding this.

While I've purchased dozens of tires from Tire Rack they're not especially helpful with the S2000. If you stick with OEM wheels, to include "AP2" wheels on an "AP1" car you're fine up to 225 front and 255 rear. Aftermarket wheels rarely have proper offsets.
