Not sure if any of you have had this but lucky MsP is at the surgeon's office right now getting sliced on my leg. See how many layers of skin need to be removed. One so far. The leg is slower to heal, so could be as long as six months! No stitches. Have to wear a compression sock during the day. Looks like I will not be traveling to Memphis next week. Was supposed to attend the +1's son's college graduation.
Yeah, in my case a squamous cell carcinoma. I lucked out. One (layer) and done! Very happy with that. Home now with my compression bandage on. Can ease back into exercise after a couple of days. Leg elevation until then. Doc says three months to heal. Have to change the bandage every day. Also says I could get another one because it's on the leg and I'm a woman.
I had Mohs surgery yesterday on my face.Stitches inside and out. This pic is from this morning when we changed the dressing. Damn I'm ugly. Mine was from too much time fishing in the sun.

Lovely... No stitches for me. They don't put them on the leg since they can pull out. So I guess that is why the leg takes longer to heal. I haven't been in the sun much in years. I was a sun worshiper in my younger days. So not sure why one popped up now. I did get a burn on my lower legs last summer in France while sightseeing in cropped pants. I'm thinking that may have precipitated it. But who knows...
I've had three squamous cell cancers removed but didn't have Mohs done. I know when I have a squamous cancer way before the dermatologist does and told them all three times. One was an ugly removal with stitches on my right arm, after the derm didn't get it all the first time. The other two were removed with a shaving type biopsy.
My derm shaved it off but said she was pretty sure it would need further work. So the surgeon did his thing. Did not go beyond the margins much. Just looks like a little crater at the moment. He offered to put a bit of skin in the middle (like a graft) to make it heal faster, but I said no. Did not buy me that much time.
Sorry to hear about you guys and your recent Big C encounters, but glad all prognoses look good. Deb, hate that you will miss Memphis but especially pleased to hear that you scraped by with a single layer. (Couldn't resist)
