RIP Niki. I have a lasting memory of being a few feet from Niki just a few weeks after his crash. It was at the Glen and there wasn't a sole there who wasn't shocked by the fact he was back racing in F1 while his face was bandaged and bleeding. My wife and I were in the enclosed pit garages the day following the actual race. James Hunt signed an autograph for her but we knew it was not the proper time to ask Niki. Mario was too busy entertaining two sexy young ladies. 1976 was a fascinating time in F1 and its humbling to think I was so close to those two legends - Hunt and Lauda - right in the middle of a legendary year. He had the willpower of a superman.

The tragedies in his life stripped back the superficial which laid raw and exposed the drive and determination of a giant.
May he rest in peace.
