Fitting in an S2000 for track use
Hi everyone,
I have been wanting to get into tracking a car and more specifically competing in Time Attack UK.
I have seen S2000’s for sale and am definitely interested in buying one to be a weekend driver and track car.
However I’m 6 ft 2 and am worried about buying the car, modifying it and then being told I won’t be able to track it because of the “broomstick” test. I have sat in one before and it was a tight fit so I’m just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and what modifications you have done to make it work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hmmmmm I did just check the UK Time Attack website and believe they need to have a hardtop fitted and perhaps a roll cage, may need to do more digging to see if it’s able to compete
EDIT - I see you mentioned UK, so I am not sure about the orgs there.
I dont know anywhere that requires a full cage for HPDE or TT. Only for wheel to wheel that I have seen.
NASA and SCCA do not even require a rollbar in an S2k. In some convertibles yes but the S2k has rollover protection sufficient for them to not require a roll bar. However, I do recommend one when you can get one given it is safer. I ran without one for years but finally put one in the car. There are 1 or 2 exceptions with SCCA due to a couple of tracks having specific rules requiring the s2k to run one. For SCCA track night in america you can look up the tech sheets. There are a couple of tracks that have special ones and require roll bars.
Given they do not require a rollbar specifically I have never had to do a broomstick test for NASA or SCCA. I can say though that after installing a roll bar and seat, I BARELY would pass a broomstick test with helmet on and I am 5'9". But I have sliders on mine and could go lower if I needed with a fixed mount. I also have the seat pad in my seat, so with that out it gains about another inch. You also gain some vertical clearance with the seat all the way back so if longer legs you have that working for you too.
As far as fitting, well that is a different thing. It really depends on your proportions. I know people your height that fit, and I know some that dont. Upper body to leg ratio is a big part of it. You can run a fixed race seat mounted directly to the floor (no sliders) and gain some vertical clearance for example. I recommend finding someone that owns one (maybe a local autocross if you know of any) and just asking if you can try fitting in the car to see.

Thanks for all the info!
yeah I’ve read a couple forums where they mentioned some fit and some don’t based on their proportions, even lowering the seat with lowered rails and fitting bucket seats I think it would be a close call so may look elsewhere instead.
I’ve emailed someone from the Time Attack UK org just to get some clarification on the regs for convertibles so I’ll have to see what they say.
Appreciate the support!
