Remapping Cars - a big fail?
I have often had to reign in my opinion on remapped cars, specifically Turbo'd motors and wondered what you lot think?
I have in the distance past remapped a diesel Golf (stage 1), and the last car, a BMW 340i. Yes, notably quicker and even better economy trundling about. But it didn't certainly change the feel of the car asking for it's extra surge, just that I would be on the brakes sooner and had to think quicker. Then of course, I'm speeding and creating far more risk to other road users and pedestrians. So I kind of wished I hadn't of been hooked into it. Maybe I'm getting old and I respect my current clean licence?!
I stumbled across a FB page on the Golf R (which we had one for a few weeks), and this car along with other German objects is ripe for tuning, most see only road use. I have no idea why someone would seek stage 3 for the road, just why? Besides the stress on the EA888, fuel pump and spending big on hybrid turbo etc, it's almost an unreal and pointless exercise - especially when an electric Hyundai with 650bhp would breeze past (that also having pointless power).
The world has gone mad - willy waving and all, the tuning industry thrives however.

It's a long held idea.. buy something moderate, use it more often
Deffo true of the NA car Vs S2
But.. SC.. it's quick even in modern terms where the NA S2 is not. If a twat in a hybrid pulls up next to me at the lights I can see him off. Does it ruin it? In some views yes. To me it's a folly, a why not thing.. not getting younger.
There is always something quicker. The sleeper mentality is leaving them wondering (are s2000s really that quick? Or am I slow?)
I also find this with the Cb1000. Twice the power of the XSR, I am on the throttle less

Very true indeed.
I know the factory limits power for longevity and reliability of other key components, as more heat equals more stress. But I'm trying to understand is that all worth it to chase 40-50% more, for traffic light races...
Round here, we have a problem with boy racers. Big problem - it's like a fricking race track all round the borough. Plenty of early 20s lads/gals in RS3/R/A43/M2 etc loving their metal, but also blipping them in 20&30 zones towards triple numbers.
Now I will concede, I was probably a bit daft in my youth, but never had the bhp numbers in my back pocket to cause risk. Hence I head to the hills in the early morning hours usually.
I think many ruin their cars by creating monsters. My brother did it with his 135i, hybrid turbos and 530bhp. Meth in the boot. It was silly. And couldn't stop the damn thing! Spent 15k on upgrading it and will never get that back.

There have always been street racers. Some that at least go out to safer areas away from people to race, some complete idiots who are dangerous to everyone else.
People like modding cars. It is fun. I agree though that super high HP cars, especially cars that got there mostly on boost, get annoying to drive on the street. They are fun in a straight line but at a point get to where they are not that much fun anymore.
But there are many different reasons people do things to their cars. My s2k has always been an autocross car and the tune I have was more aimed at giving the AP1 a bit more low end grunt. Nowadays, it is still street legal but sees maybe a couple thousand street miles per year because it is more of a track car now. Drivers seat is harder to get in and out of (race seat), stiff suspension, still have the tune, etc. But I still like driving it on the street at times so I keep it tagged and legal.
I get my 50 year old boy racer out on the track. On the street I mainly just like cruising and enjoy it top down. A little spirited but mostly just enjoying it as a convertible. I get all that aggressive driving part out on the road course

The boy racers have always been but yeah probs more dangerous
There is a guy on YouTube gets them drag racing, a bloke rocked up in a 700bhp turbo Audi
It broke straight away
I don't get that but don't confuse it with guilt of street twattery. He might just be obsessed chasing bhp
My S2 only gets the boot when noone is there to see, except me.
Or hybrid or leccy twat tries to stamp on his throttle.
The latter are baiting me, I remember a twat in a ****ing nissan something doing that. I do rise to that but not to crazy speeds and not if peds about. I also enjoy the fact they might be regatta types and my car spits some fire and bangs 1st-2nd.. dutty
A Tesla would beat me but I would have more fun and also like tits

I had “Tesla Tommy” shout something to me at a set of lights today, he then charged off as the went green, 600 yards later at the next set I arrived with him sitting at red, he shouted loser to me so I blew him a kiss and waggled my pinky at him, then trundled off when the lights changed, he didn’t look happy at my ‘don’t care’ attitude.
