The 250th anniversary of the United States of America is quite a significant milestone. I can't believe I am around to celebrate with a greater understanding and appreciation for the upcoming July 4th. I was a young lad in 1976 living in Austin, Texas. I faintly remember going with my friend's family to watch the fireworks. 50 years have gone by. I imagine many of us remember that July 4th, 1976 as we celebrated Bicentennial. Feel free to share your thoughts.
I could care less about the entertainment at the Whitehouse. Hell if I lived close by and tickets were reasonable would probably enjoy watching the fights lol. More fun than watching what actually goes on inside the place for most of my life. The goons are the people that work INSIDE the place and have been for decades IMO
But mainly, has nothing to do with how I feel about the semi quincentennial or my country as a whole.
I was 32 on July 4 76. We were celebrating at a friends home on the beach with several other friends. We walked out on the pier next to his house and raised a toast. Then we watched the fireworks down by the public beach. A lot has happened in this country in 250 years. Some good, some not so good but we have all enjoyed the freedom of living in this great country and we can thank all the men and women in uniform who preserved it, especially the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.
I definitely remember July 4th 1976 as it was the first time I came up to the resort where I now live, I was seven years old and the family that my Dad was a caretaker for bought a ski house here and we came up for the first time so he could do some work on it and we also had some fun too. I said to my parents on one of our later visits that I want to live here when I grow up and I made that happen. I also remember the spirit of 76 bumper sticker that we had on the station wagon and the memorial quarters.
July 4th, 1976. I haven't a clue what we did but we likely had fun. My memories of the year are two fold. I completed my MG restoration and they published an article about it in the company paper. Plus I bought Triumph Stag because it was a sports car with a backseat and I had two kids at that time. We were heading to the Glen for the GP in that photo.
