All - I am looking for the best tire shop in Jax that will mount and balance my new tires correctly with no scratches to my rims. On Yelp.com, Gunner tires on Beach Blvd has good ratings. Also noted Eurospec was rated well here. I want a shop who uses the Hunter GSP9700 Road Force for balancing, as I hear this is the best equipment in the market. I also know that the balancing/mounting will only be as good as the tech. If you can recommend the shop with the Hunter and a great tech I should ask for, let me know. Depending on the shop, I may decide to just take the rear wheels and put them back on the car myself.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Tachyon Automotive off of Philips HWY did some work for me about a year ago. They were very friendly, had extremely competitive rates and did things by the book. They have a long history in drag racing and engine modifications, so I feel they are really competent. I pulled a bonehead move and dropped the clutch fork into the transmission bell...with the transmission still attached. Dealer quoted me around $1,400 just to get the fork back on, and more if there were other problems (which you know the dealer will find other problems ;-) ). Tachyon did it for $750. There is a lot of work that goes into removing the transmission, as you probably know, unless you know all of the tricks. At this point they could have gotten me for clutch, bearings, etc, etc...but they didn't. Recommend to all of my friends, and they have all had great service there.

Eurospec has come up a couple of times on s2ki, and I drive by them every morning. Their shop continues to look more and more busy every week. Hard to find a better indication of their ability than that. I see Ferrari, Porsche, BMW M, Mercedes AMG, Audi, Land Rover/Jag and other non euro cars outside of their bays all the time. As much as I like Tachyon, I may try eurospec for a valve adjustment. Something about their portfolio of Ferrari and Porsche that makes me want to give them a shot with the valves.

Can someone give more information about Mase Engineering? I know Steve Mason (I think that's the owner's name) makes/made one of the best turbo kits you can get for an S2000. Does their shop work on things like valve adjustments or top end builds? May be worth a call. Would be hard-pressed to find someone in Jacksonville for S2000 work if he was manufacturing tubro kits for them...IMHO.

As for tires: I don't have an opinion. Auto Spot Tire Pros has 2 locations in the Southside (Touchton and Southside | Bartram Springs area off Old St. Augustine and I95). Their prices are good, and the service bays are always clean. They carry a large variety, and have performance tires most would look for in our cars (Goodyear, Hankook, Toyo, Kumho etc). They're probably no better or worse than any other tire shop, but at least they're not Tire Rack, Discount Tire or one of those corporate giants. If you have a Costco membership I have heard they are hard to beat.

Euro spec are European specialist. I don't think I would trust them with anything but tires on the S. Mase no longer manufactures the turbo kit. He still tunes and is the best around.
Valve jobs are pretty easy on the s. an ex owner, Alfredo showed me how. There are a few local members that will do it for you much cheaper than the local shops. Josh has probably done 50 of them.

I've used Tachyon ever since i've been in Jax. Never had a problem with them at all. Bryan, and Terry, and Jeff are all great guys.

Mase, Steve Mason is a great guy, and Tuner as well. He still works on the S when he has time, however Race Koncepts and Mase use the same shop, the owner is Ricky. He do pretty much everything, from oil changes too clutch installs. Check them out.

I just went to River City Powder Coatings to have my wheels powder coated. I was really impressed with the shop. They offer full wheel services. They not only powder coat, but can mount and balance new rubber, or put existing tires back on. They can also powder coat more than just wheels, if you're looking for some engine bay details or other accessories. They had a pair of brake calipers hanging in the lobby with a pearlescent blue finish. Looked great.

He's even letting me ship tires that he is not a dealer for, since he didn't have an agreement with Toyo finalized yet. Extremely nice people and low pressure. Guy I talked to, Dan, is in to road racing and said he likes to race Miatas. Relates well to S2000 owners.

He has the latest in tire mounting and balancing equipment. Has a Road Force balancer, and a tire mounting machine that doesn't drag the lip. Extremely important right after you just paid to have wheels powder coated.

They'll work up a full quote for services, but stock S2000 wheels were $70 a piece for blast, pretreat, and coat.
