To the administrators/interested folk:

I was wondering if it would be possible to get a separate version of the "CarTalk" forum created that would be more friendly to AvantGo. I've set up S2000Online as a channel on AvantGo, which just downloads the first page of the CarTalk forum 1 link deep, and it came out pretty well, but the big cells on the left with the user information make it rather difficult to read (I have to continually scroll back and forth to read a line as there's not enough room to properly wrap the text).

Would there be any chance of getting an "AvanGo-friendly" version of that forum? It'd definitely keep me entertained as I'm flying to work and back (-:

Thanks for a great site!

Yes! That's a fantastiic idea. I thought that they charge $5K when you get x number of subscribers though?

I have a Palm3 so I'll see what can be done :)

Cool! Thanks for the response.

I don't know how an "official" AvantGo channel works, but if you go to the site you've got the option of creating your own channel. Essentially all you do is type in a URL, specify how many links deep you want the AvantGo app to download, and let it do it's thing. It works pretty well for me.

If they are actually charging to create a real channel, then I'd think that all you'd need to do on this end is create a more simplistic page somewhere out there, and we could all manually create our own channels.

Then I could drool over my future car from far away from my desktop (-:

Thanks for looking into this!

Very cool. Since you are an experienced user of AvantGo, what do you think should or shouldn't be part of the page? Do the reply/post buttons do anything? Looks like tables aren'r supported, perhaps a different layout?

Please advise. I'll keep looking it over.

Thanks,
c3

I'm using AvantGo on my PocketPC PDA, which has a simplified version of IE, so just about anything HTML works for me. The only problem I have is the width of the cells in the table, which causes the page to not fit on the screen very well. I don't know how it would look on a Palm device...

I'd suggest going with a more simplified layout, maybe with the user information and post text all displayed together in the same cell, or with one on top of the other, rather than side-by-side as it is now. That'd open up some more room. I'd much rather have to scroll further down than have to keep scrolling left and right to read a line like I currently have to.

And, I don't know about the reply buttons and whatnot. Some AvantGo channels do support posting forms, but I'm not 100% sure how they work, or how they're setup. Lemme do a little expirimenting...

Test post from my PDA...

Wow! That worked (-:

Ok... so, I guess the reply button works, at least on my PDA. I guess the main suggestions I'd make are to put the user info inline with the text of the post, and to reduce the number of links on the "AvantGo Special Page," or whatever you want to call it. Just downloading this thread a few links deep took over a meg on my PDA, likely thanks to it having to download every page it links too (well, those with an s2000online.com domain, anyhow)...

p.s. If I set the channel to download images, your sponsors banners do show up. Thought you might want to know (-:
