Default Editing Thread Title

Is there not a way to edit the thread title anymore? I tried going into advanced edit on a post I originally created on the old platform, and the title edit is there, but after I save the changes it doesn't appear to take.

No, thread titles can no longer be changed by anyone other than a moderator. PM a mod and they can update it for you.

May I ask why that is? Does the new platform not offer that feature or was it a conscious decision to restrict that ability?

Asking because it is much less convenient and efficient than doing it yourself.

I do not know, I believe it is a software issue but I am unsure. I do agree with you, the OP should be able to edit their thread titles as was always the case before.

IB themselves would have to respond with the reasoning.

I had to PM a mod to change a title today. The thread starter not being able to change the title as before is a real pain. If there is anyway to make that happen, it would be very nice!

As Sam mentioned, it's unfortunately due to limitations in vBulletin's software. Editing a thread title beyond the standard post editing time is tied to moderator abilities, which means the only way at this point to edit a title is to ask a moderator or one of us IB folk.

That said, I'm happy to pass along the feedback to potentially change this in the future.

It definitely should be added to the "To Do List"

OP's should be able to edit thread titles.

Yep...there must be a flag that denotes "Thread Starter" since that appears in the first post. Just change the title edit permission to point to Thread Starter and Moderator instead of just Moderator. Doesn't seem that difficult. Of course, I didn't write the software.
