FS Forum's Rules

Greetings

I want to share my opinion on the existing "Rules" in the for Sale forum. First, there are two thread with Rules. There should be a single thread with rules. Here is the main rule that is the reason I will let my membership expire.

RULE #2

If you are selling MULTIPLE items.. Please make a "GARAGE SALE" thread

Proper way: "CA - Garage Sale - seats, exhaust, misc"

This is much easier, less threads, and people will click more to see your new updates out of curiosity.
You may also post your screen name in the title - "speedy bob - Garage Sale thread" for example.

So this means I can only have one active thread in the FS forum at a time. I find it hard to find what is for sale since almost every thread is a garage sale. When I want to post something FS, I want to post just that. Sale I have a head to sell. And later I have a set of sway bars to sell, I have to combined the two. As I add more items to sell, I have to add stuff to the existing Garage sale thread. This has surely sent many sellers to Facebook market place.

Personally I want to post a thread for each high dollar item I have for sale to keep the thread clean and on topic. This will allow the buyers to only have to look into each thread once. In the current format, a buyer has to look into each garage sale thread over and over again to see if the updates were related to the FS items or just comments. As a buyer, I find that this wastes a lot of my time. Enough so I use other methods to find what I am looking for.

So in summary, this one rule is pushing both buyers and sellers away. As a result, I personally don't bother coming to the site as often as I have in past years. This seams to be counter productive to a social media site that needs to captivate users attention.

The rules do not dictate that you may only have one thread, what it states is if you are selling multiple items to list it as a garage sale. In the past, people would list in the secondary header of the thread what they were selling, the current software no longer has a secondary title which has made the garage sale header more appropriate. The rules have been the same for many years, the term garage sale was added years (10+) ago. For the record, I'm only seeing one "rules" thread.

You can create a FS thread for each of your items if you wish, entirely up to you.

People have gone to FB because FB is free, let's not kid ourselves. We also see how many people are getting scammed on a continual basis on FB & Instagram, but if you're happy going that route, by all means good luck.

We require membership to help prevent fraud/scams to help our members, quite a lot of people still see the benefit in that. I still get at least one pm a week with someone trying to scam another user on here.

Actually I did create several separate threads. However, they were merged and I was told off. So you might think I can but other Mods will not allow it. So in practice it is one active thread per seller.

When was that? I can see you've had a few garage sale posts in the past.

If you want to list each item separately it is fine to do that, the term 'garage sale' was implemented when people were selling lots of items and the titles were all very messy. We never dictated that a user can only have one thread at a time, I most definitely did not.

As I said, and posted a quote of Rule #2. A Mod merged by thread and told me Garage Sale was required. So it sounds like the Mods need to be informed that Garage Sale is NOT required to sell Multi items.

Thanks for the consideration.

Here is a link to the post in the thread that was merged. Manga_Spawn was the moderator that forced the merge thread issue.

Understood, thanks for the link. Per above, you can have more than one thread, I’ll make sure it’s known to all Mods not to merge them in future.

Thanks

The rules have been updated to state a garage sale thread is not required and is only a suggestion for those selling multiple items in one thread.

Sorry for the confusion before, and the merging of your old threads.

Not sure where I said it was required or where you were told off in that. I even gave the option of making a new thread. Could have messaged me to discuss as well since this was 3 years ago. I asked for the items to be in one thread as it keeps the classifieds from being dominated by one or a few sellers. The grouped threads are still searchable with both the forum search and other means as long as the body of the thread has details about the items for sale. I will admit my understanding of the rules was if you were going to post multiple things at one time then you should put them all in one thread per that rule.

As Sam said go ahead and post individual threads for your items if that’s what you want to do.
