There is a box to check at the bottom of the text box to enable this. It is at the posters discretion

I believe posts SHOULD be able to be edited but the community has the right to know what has been edited Turning it of should NOT be at the posters discretion.

As paying members you have the option whether to show it or not to. Guests have no such option. You also have the option as paying members to delete your posts if you choose to, an option that didn't exist in the previous version. Members get way more options in v4 than you did in v3.

Eric

If you are the thread starter will deleting your post delete the entire thread? Does the thread starter (assuming he/she is a member) still have the ability to close a thread?

I'm not sure that these are good options. When I was a CO of Vintage I found that allowing members to close threads or delete threads could create problems.

People can close their own threads but not delete them (you can't delete your post if it's the first). You can delete posts but only if they are replies. Are you suggesting a more restrictive set of privileges?

I'm not sure how the other forums feel about this but in Vintage we used to object to the fact that the thread starter could close the thread. Often, the thread was closed just as the discussion was getting good. I think I would have restricted this ability so that only the CO's and Mods can close threads. The starter can ask the CO to close it and the CO is usually willing to do so for good reason. It makes things simpler for the CO. Its not fair for a Mod or CO to have to open a thread once the originator has closed it. I think that by elliminating the ability to close a thread the originators might think twice about what they are about to say.

As far as deleting a post I have no problem with that so long as the thread starter cannot delete the entire thread. Deleting an individual post is cleaner than editing it with a period.

I tend to think that when a post is edited the message should appear. The other posters to a thread have the right to know when the content of a post has changed. I have seen discussions revolve around posts that have later been changed. The result is that the posters that follow either feel silly or don't understand the discussion. If the message appears at least everyone knows that something has changed. What will probably happen is that posters will start to quote controversial posts so that the original will be preserved as a quote.

Please take these comments in the spirit that they are intended, as suggestions to help to fine tune this site. By the way, the new version looks real good. Thanks.
