Default Useless Search Function

Can anything be done about the useless Search function?

One of the strengths of the forum is 16 years of experience and information. The Search function, though, chokes on even a simple search.

For example I was searching for a recent post that was concerned of an octane loss filling behind a car using 87. (There isn't anything significant despite fears) OK, I'll just use the Search function.

Search for "octane." Great, 1000 hits. Newest one was July 2001, the other 999 were older! No wonder all the necro-threads keep turning up. Guys are using the search function and reopen 15 year old threads.

I don't want to see 100,000 hits for octane, just a way to limit the search window somehow. Like a search between dates or by age.

As it is now Search is pretty useless.

I know this doesnt help with the search functionality on here, but searching with Google will yield way better results.

Try searching, 87 octane s2ki, on google and your prayers will be answered!

Thanks. 965 hits but at least some are newer than 2001.

Doesn't need to be PM. IB, the parent company that owns s2ki, has been looking to make the switch to a newer bulletin board. vBulletin, which is the engine behind their other sites (Acurazine, Honda-tech, rennlist, etc.) has much more support than the one we are currently on. Migrating this site has been in the works for quite some time but our "wishlist" of stuff to translate over is pretty extensive. The other benefit of moving is the addition of a far superior app support instead of the one we are on right on. Play around on the Garage Talk app and you can see what we are missing out on.

^ that, in a nutshell, is what's going on with the site.

This is good to hear. Maybe I will start paying a membership again. Because it became ridiculous to pay for a site that doesn't even have a proper search engine (when sites like Honda-Tech are 100% free). I'm sure it will make users much happier!
