For the sake of others (including me) can someone show how?

concordepa 12-03-2004 04:34 PM

I think you have to be a member and not a guest.

You dont need to put your VIN in anywhere any longer

Billman250 03-11-2005 08:20 AM

So how do we recognize theives from legit guys selling....

AquilaEagle 03-11-2005 09:33 AM

You can't, and you never could.

Billman250 03-11-2005 10:44 AM

We could, from guys that don't know better...there was a guy selling 03 wheels, but posted an 04 vin....I saw that and even posted the discrepancy, but no one listened and 3 guys got taken....I guess if someone is slick they will get you....

IMO, it doesn't make sense to make the guys not register anymore. now any ricer with a civic can claim ownership. it's not a huge deal, but it is kind of annoying.

Plus what Billman said, it only helped with mental 'red-flags'.

When we did collect VINs they were never associated with a specific account and thus you could never see what the VIN was. It wasn't made public anyway. If you want a VIN go to eBay and look for an S2000 for sale. There is your VIN. A VIN was never a very good way to distinguish owners from non-owners and many people felt it was more information than they were willing to offer.

It was ineffectual, difficult to maintain and other than indicating if someone entered a valid one in their profile offered no information. Also since the VINs weren't actually associated with accounts you couldn't remove it. Lots of work, little gain.

As for selling stuff, I am going to make the For Sale forum members only to post topics. I'm going to get a lot of grief from some people about that change and that's why I haven't really discussed it much. I have my flame suit on. It will happen in the next couple of weeks along with a few other changes that I will announce to members via an update email soon.
