Default Civic Type R

I want a new car but in the Commonwealth of Virginia one pays personal property tax every year of ownership of a vehicle based on the KBB value. That is why I drive them until they drop. The personal property tax on our 2003 S-2000 is higher than the tax on our 2008 Honda Fit Sport.

There is a local used car dealer that has a couple of Civic Type R's available for sale.

https://www.imperialhighline.com/det...8ku202089.html

They are asking over MSRP (Maroney) Sticker for a used car. I am curious as to why this one only has 809 miles on it?

I sent them an E-mail suggesting that I am interested in it, but not willing to pay over MSRP for it, and perhaps offer them a price that takes into consideration the mileage deduction off of MSRP. It will be interesting if I get a response from them.

"**HARD TO FIND**"
Hardly. There are currently 321 TypeR Civics listed on CarGurus.com, 172 with mileage under 10K. Many CPO and most below MSRP. 80 of the under-10K mile listings are under $35K
Here's a nice one in Ocala...
CPO TypeR Touring, 3200 miles $32,918.TypeR On CarGurus

Or get a brand new white TypeR over in Alexandria for $34,612.

Whereas the TypeR is a fine car, and most of the critics have given it high marks, it hasn't sold very well. I have heard from a reliable source that the dealers are having trouble selling it.

I hate to say this but $38,995 is way too much for that car.

IMHO anything over MSRP is not worth paying for a new one, let alone a used one!

I could have sworn the ad valorem tax on cars, boats, etc. was by the county or city, not the Commonwealth.

I agree, there are much better vehicles out there and I think the R is ugly.

Ray, there may be a lot of "much better vehicles out there" but those that are as good a performance value can probably be counted on one hand. But, yes, the R is definitely ugly if your eyes are over 15 years old.

I disagree. Except for the wing on the back, I really like the TypeR. I just don't think it's worth $38,995 used. As a matter of fact I don't think it's worth $34,000 new.

If it didn't have that silly wing and if it was priced at about $27,000 or $28,000 I'd have bought one instead of my Si. I think its a great car, but not for the price they're asking.
