Here is a link to an article about a 104-yr-old Marine (Major Bill White) who survived Iwo Jima and has asked for people to send him Valentine's Day cards. I went and got one immediately and wrote a note to him attaching a photocopy of the Iwo Jima painting that the +1 did for Dad. I think Major White will appreciate it, too. I put on there to open early so he sees it before the millions of other cards show up!! Heartwarming.
I do not recall seeing that painting before. That's great. I just happened to have sent a donation to the DAV yesterday. Always great IMHO to honor our Vets.
Thanks. The +1 painted that in 2009 when we had a big snowstorm. Two years before my dad died. Both my parents loved it and it hung it in their kitchen. When my mother moved to assisted living the last year of her life she took it with her to hang in her room. So it holds a special place for us.
He deserves it. Those Marines who fought on that Island are my heroes. They went through hell as the Japs were a formidable opponent and would never surrender. Semper Fi.
