Default Where have all the cowboys gone?

It's dawn on new years day, I'm spinning the cable box looking for a movie.
I found an old jet li chinese movie. The kind where the hero's a hero. the bad guys are bad the innocent are innocent.

I think it's about time for cowboys once again in the US. The John Wayne Randolph Scott Shane kind of cowboys where good is good and evil is punished. The kind where there's no middle ground.

I think America could use a little cowboy pride injected into it's entertainment perspective. The French have The Musketeers. The Chinese have Bruce Lee. The Brits have THe four feathers.

I want COWBOYS

Oh, yeah, I loved those old Western TV shows, too. Can't remember the names of all of them. This is one for the trivia thread.

Unfortunately, most of the old TV westerns don't hold up visually. The clearly obvious soundstage settings detract from the story.

I want new Cowboy heros. I want Indians, cattle drives gun fights. I want the idealistic age to return. Where's the Red Ryder of today? Where's the Hopalong Cassidy? Screw the anti hero! And Away Silver!!!

I am going somewhere with this.....

Now you got it. But I want more than this. I want new heros. I want them on TV. I want kids to have those kind of idealistic heros once again. The kind that know right from wrong. The kind that kiss the lady and ride away into the sunset.

I want the good guys to win. I want the heritage that cowboy legends instill to come back alive in this country. I want kids buying Cowboy suits and six shooter cap guns.

It's more than old movies. I want to reinstill a value code.

Where are the heros anyway?

I appreciate your sentiment and understand where you are going with this, but it's not the cowboys that you want. You want the characters from "The Longest Day".

You want John Wayne as Lt. Col Benjamin Vandervoot, you want Robert Mitchum as Brig. Gen. Norman Coda, you want Henry Fonda as Brig Gen. Theodore Roosevelt Jr.

You want the Nazis to be the enemy, and you want American fighting forces who are brave, strong, courageous, honest, loyal and dedicated. You want black and white, no grey. They are wrong, we are right, and with God on our side we will overcome anything that comes into our path. You want an enemy who is all evil, and heros who are really heros. "Just lace up the boot, we're moving on."

Not a bad request, but unfortunately it only comes from Hollywood. It isn't that easy in real life. The heros you want are bigger than life.

you're forgetting that often the native americans-- formerly known as "indians", i.e.-- "cowboys vs indians"-- were portrayed as the "bad guys". that wouldn't hold up too well in this time of political correctness. not saying PC is bad in this case, considering the centuries of lies and subjugation imposed upon the native americans.

besides, the last real American cowboy passed away earlier this year after a decade long fight against Alzheimers.

Oh, to be un-PC

Gimme' a hard-riding, tobacco-chewing, gun-totin' cowboy any day!
