Default You played it for her, now play it for me.

It's been quite a while since we did a movie thread. It's time for another one.

List some of your favorite movies. A brief description and maybe some commentary is fine too.

Some of mine are:

Casablanca
Even if I didn't love the movie, just looking at Ingrid Bergman is worth the time. "Here's looking at you, kid."

Citizen Kane
Yes, I happen to think Orson Welles was a brilliant filmmaker.

The Longest Day
Bigger than life, great movie. "Lace up the boot son, we're going on."

Mr. Roberts
Great story, and great performers. What a trio. Cagney, Fonda and Lemmon. Wow.

12 Angry Men
Just a great movie. Nothing else need be said.

Paths of Glory
It's in the message.

Easy Rider
"Don't bogart that joint my friend, pass it over to me." An anthem for a generation. The reason I bought a motorcycle.

What are your favorites?

I am so sick of having to re do a whole post when the friggin cannot display page or whatever it is, shows up!

Pure Country

We rented this video about 10 years ago but it remains my favorite movie. I didn't even like country music when we did, but the story was intriguing. It's about a county music star (George Straight plays him) who is sick of performing the big concert shows with smoke and fireworks, and longs for the good 'ol days of playing his guitar to a small audience. It ends up he finds love. I think it's enchanting and funny and even though I've seen it maybe 6 times, I still get teary eyed with the adorable love story. It has a great ending too.

The Matrix (Loved it -- hope it never happens -- oops maybe it has!!)
Logan's Run -- alltime favorite scifi adventure
The Terminal -- thought this was an excellent portrayal of one who makes the best of some bad circumstances
Risky Business -- story of an enterprising young guy coming of age
Saved -- cute and probably more true-to-life (particularly here in the fundy capital of the world) than I'd like to think
The Butterfly Effect -- very interesting concept -- this guy was willing to give up the person he loved in order for her to have a better life.

Except for Pure Country, I haven't seen any of the above mentioned movies. I don't do scary or violence so that eliminates some of them but not many.

Almost too many to mention.

One movie that hasn't been mentioned before that I've always enjoyed is "The Fabulous Baker Boys"

Being a Seattle native, a jazz lover/part time musician and one who finds Michelle Pfeiffer quite attractive how can you not like it

The soundtrack is excellent and the whole mood of the movie was soooo cool.

The shots of Seattle (and a couple of venues I've had gigs in) make it particularly personal for me.

A couple of others:

Ronin - the most expensive movie I ever saw - I ended up with an Audi A6 4.2 after seeing the chase scenes (now I have the S2000 and a 4Runner, same overall cost, but a better sports car and a better 4WD)

Get Shorty - great sendup of Hollywood, Travolta at his best with great support from Hackman.

The Big Sleep - classic Bogart, start of his romance with Lauren Bacall.

I've never been to Seattle, I had very little interest in jazz at the time I first saw it, and I never played a musical instrument, but I agree with lig about this movie. If you haven't seen it, watch it.

I'd also like to nominate "The Four Seasons," with Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Jack Weston, Rita Moreno, Sandy Dennis, and a couple of other familiar names. Funny lines and some pretty good scenery displayed to a soundtrack by Vivaldi. If you've never seen it, rent it sometime. It's worth it. If you've seen it, watch it again. It's worth it.
