High School & College Reunions...
Rob's re-birthing of the 'High School' thread brought to mind the Sequel
-Have you attended any or all of your High School reunions?
-Was it a fun time or not?
-Did you meet any of your old love interests (or old competition
)?
-Were they classy affairs....or in the basement of a neighborhood bar
-College reunions can also fit into this topic...if you wish

OK- I'll start
We went to our #40
HS reunion in October 04
There were a few people there who I had not seen for the entire 40 years....amazing
Both +1 (Kathy) and I were in the same HS class, which helps avoid the reunion 'out-of-it' spouse syndrome
OTOH, this makes it hard to be too overt about 'slow dancing' with a different old flame....as if I had one
I've been to every "5 year" reunion except #5, at which time I was 'celebrating' @ Fort Benning GA
I've helped to organize many of the prior events

My high school didn't have a five or even a ten year reunion but they had a fifteen year one a couple of years ago. I wanted to go but was a little apprehensive and didn't end up going. I really regret not going I know I would of had a great time and I promised myself I will go to the next one.

It's interesting that the 'popular' folks often turn out to be chubby and
20-30 years later....while the 'wallflowers' (like me) turn into terrific people
My class (McLean High School, McLean, VA) didn't have any reunions until the 20th, which I attended. It was fun, held at a local hotel and quite well attended. Some peeps had changed, some had not. Saw a couple of old boyfriends there. We then had a 25th and 30th, but none since. Both of those were not that well attended. I was on the organizing committee for the 30th one. Also attended the 40th reunion of the whole high school, which was a dinner dance held at the Ritz Carlton. Very nice...The 50th reunion of the school is coming up in October this year, so I will at least attend, and maybe volunteer for something.
Ironically, I did not see my main high-school sweetheart at the reunions. He moved out west and didn't come back for them. But I did see him when he came back some years ago for a business meeting. And then, last summer, when I went with my dad to his 70th HS reunion in Montana. That's where the sweetheart lives now. We've stayed in touch, and he will be meeting me in Phoenix when I go out for the Big Meet in San Diego in March, then to Phoenix to visit my brother.
One of my high-school friends moved out to San Diego for a long time, then moved back to McLean about seven years ago. We rekindled our friendship and she remains one of my closest friends.

Amazing, isn't it? I don't think most people would recognize me now. I haven't been to any of my H.S. reunions (my 25th was a couple of years ago and I thought about it, but...) - I've heard they're pretty boring affairs and just haven't made the trip back for one yet...not to mention that they're at Thanksgiving time (what a lousy time to have a reunion for which 50% of the population must fly in). We've got a group of H.S. kids (not all in my year) that keep farting around about doing a get-together of the non-compliants, but nothing so far. Everybody's so scattered across the U.S.
I went to my 10th reunion and it was not a good time. People were too hung up on "who they were" or "what they had accomplished" they didn't mingle, and pretty much kept to the same groups they hung around with in high school.
The 20th one came and I was going to skip it until my sis convinced me otherwise. She had been to hers the year before and said people were mingling more, just basically more comfortable with themselves, vs what they had accomplished. I had a really good time at the 20th reunion. Both reunions were held at local restaurant/banquet facilities.
The reason many of them plan these things for the Thanksgiving weekend is they figure people will be back home visiting family.
Our 30th came and went with nothing planned. Not sure I'd bother to go to another.

The 1st one I went to was the 35th a couple summers ago. Had a great time seeing lots of people I hadn't seen since school. It was held at a local club, and I'm looking forward to making the 40th in 2007.
I've never been to either my high school or college reunions. I hated high school and didn't nave many friends there. My college was a city college, a commuter school, and not the kind that created life long friendships.
My younger sister, who went to the same high school as I did and was very popular, attended her 20th reunion. She remained very friendly with a few people. they went together and tended to spend the evening together. She said it wasn't worth the effort.
