Any Vintage woodworkers?
I need some help finding something. I have no idea what they're called, or even if such a thing is made, but I need some wooden widgets shaped sort of like plumbing flanges. I need to attach some 1.25" dia. oak dowel perpendicular to a flat surface, so I've been hunting all over creation for some type of collars/flanges/doohickeys made out of red oak about 3" diameter, 1.5" thick, with a 1.25" hole through the center. Any idea where I could find about a dozen and a half of them? I'm also looking for eight of basically the same thing, but with about a 2.5" dia., 1.5" thick, and a 1" hole through the center. I've called all over Florida today looking for these things without success.
Have you tried these guys http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/HOME.exe
I have used them for a few accessories in the past.
Woodworkers warehouse used to be pretty good, but they went belly up ~a year ago.

you might have problems looking for exactly what you require. a start is to consider the already made moldings as opposed to getting someone to custom make it. i am thinking of a colonial look for door casing. instead of mitering the casing in the corner there is a readily available bezel that is approx 2" square 1" thick and has a decorative face to it (usually multiple circles routered into it) that you butt the casing at 90 degrees to it. you will have to drill the hole you require. i would start with a home depot store or here we have a specialty shop called windsor plywood. locate an outlet that sells mouldings i.e. door casing, baseboard, crown mould and they should understand what you are trying to do and steer you in the right direction. the manufacture /distributor that supplies them to retail outlets here is weldwood. good luck

I've asked at just about every lumber/woodworking store that's listed in the yellow pages in Florida today.
How about an area furniture shop or woodturner? You might be able to get something like that turned fairly inexpensively in a shop that has a lathe.
Another thing you might try, is picking up a copy of Fine Woodworking. There are many ads for offbeat wooden items, and shops that make things.
Also, have a look at these:

I was only able to find one local shop that was willing to make them, and they wanted almost ten dollars a piece!

Hey Dean,
Another thing you might try is posting a query here:
Knots Forum
You have to register to post, but it's free and they (Taunton) do not sell emails or do any spamming. I'm sure if you post a description of what you're looking for in the General Discussion section you'll get some good responses.
I've found the Knots forum (for woodworking) and the Cook's Talk forum (for cooking) to be invaluable resources for those two topics.
Give'em a try!!!

It sounds like you need an oak board and a set of hole saws. You should be able to make your own with a hole saw set.
I would get a 1" thick board and glue them together to make the thickness that you want. Menard's is having a sale on their hardwood boards this week and the prices are pretty good.
