Default What is your favorite beverage when you drink?

all,

As I was sitting here surfing with one of my favorite beverages, I just got curious as to what the rest of you enjoy?

If you have a favorite drink or an unusual recipe for one it may be interesting to share.

I will start off. Years ago we were at a bar where we knew the bar tender and he was trying to invent some new drinks to suggest to customers that wanted something different. Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia it is illegal (as are most things that are either fun or enjoyable) for bartenders to drink while on duty. So he started playing around with some concoctions. The end result was named a Matthew's Madness:

Mount Gay Barbados Rum (over ice)
Mix in Tonic water
Squeeze in the juice of a slice of lime
Top off with a "swill" of Grand Mariner

This is a very refreshing drink on a hot summer day when one is looking for something a bit out of the ordinary.

I like red and white wine; merlot, cabernet sauvingon and chardonnay but I voted none of the above because I like champagne too, a little more. In the summer though I like Mai Tais and Margaritas too. Used to love 7 and 7s, and hot butter rums too but never drink those anymore.

Lemon "tea" - slice a slice of lemon into a teacup, fill it with boiling water, it smells so good! But since it's a pain to keep fresh lemons around, I usually just drink water.

I'm a tea totaller myself; my stomach won't tolerate alcohol anymore. Nowadays, I just drink iced tea by the gallon, lots of lemon and equal.

I was, however, a great bartender in my day, professional even, and here's my favorite simple but delish drink recipe.

The Chocolate Martini:

Temperature is the most important element in any martini, so the colder the ingredients are, the better.

1 1/2 oz. top quality vodka
1/2 oz. white creme de cacao (must be the white, not the brown)

Stir with ice and strain into chilled martini glass. (Stir, btw. No gentleman would ever think of drinking a shaken martini! )

Garnish with a cherry. (Leave the cherry soaking a bit. It'll taste like a chocolate cherry!)

This drink is completely clear yet incredibly chocolaty. It is none-the-less extremely potent, and if you can get your date to finish a few... (s)he's all yours.

As they say with martinis...

One is just splendid, two is the most;
three, you're under the table; four, you're under the host!

As a chocolate lover I'm going to have to try that sometime.

Water is my favorite drink, but I enjoy a glass of white wine before dinner or a nice merlot. This is a neat concoction you can prepare well ahead of time if you're having a bbq or nice summer party and it will keep in the freezer for a long time:

Bourbon Slush (I am from the south, ya know )

1 12 oz can frozen orange juice concentrate
1 12 oz can frozen lemonade concentrate
3/4 c sugar
2 c STRONG tea
6 c water
2 c your favorite bourbon

Mix together and freeze until slushy

My drinks of choice are the Sea Breeze (vodka w/cranberry and grapefruit juices), and the Kir Royale (champagne w/Chambord). I like Pinot Grigio when I'm drinking wine. And I drink lots of tea. I used to drink soft drinks, but now have pretty much cut those out in favor of water.

I have tried many a chocolate martini and this one is the best I've had.

Try this one Drewchie and let me know what you think.

2 shots Vanilla Vodka
1 shot Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur
1 shot Coffee Liqueur (Kahlua)

Shaken with ice and poured in a chilled martini glass.
