Default Does your S2000 come in 2nd place?

I'm fairly certain that all of us love our S2000's, but is there a hobby that inspires more "passion"? Okay, children, grandchildren and even messing around on the computer don't count.

Is it stamp collecting? Sky diving? Fishing, hunting or hiking? Model airplanes?

Although I love my S2000, I also have a weak spot for sport bikes and watch collecting. Even an S2K can't compare with riding down a twisty road in the morning on my Ducati. It's a complete integration between person and machine, and a heightened awareness that is always exhilirating.

Watches are different. I love their complexity and design. Although mechanical watches will never keep time better than a McDonald's giveaway, they still hold a fascination for me.

You?

Cordy. The S is not a hobby for me, its something I own for pleasure. My hobbies are oil and acrylic painting, handbuilt porcelain pieces, experimenting with various homeroasted coffee blends, flower gardening, cooking, music, flying kites, and playing with my dogs. After those things comes playing in the S. Mostly I enjoy the S when +1 and I can explore various little villages and towns about Virginia. I think that my hobbies are things that it would be painful to live without. I could live without the S (as long as I replaced it with some other little fun car).

Cordy

I never thought of it in terms of 1st place or 2nd place, my S is just another one of those things in my life that I value and enjoy.

I think most of us in Vintage have been around long enough to develop many interests, likes and (for the lack of a better word) hobbies. I also think that we have been around long enough to be able to put things into perspective. What I am trying to say is that there are many things that we enjoy and that go into the definition of who we are.

I like my work. I spend a lot of time and energy on it. I like business, finance and investing. I spend a lot of time following, learning and doing these things. I love tinkering, I do it whenever I get the chance. I'll change my oil just for the sake of changing my oil, but really I do it because I like doing it. I like reading and thinking. I like spending time with my family and I do as much of that as I can.

Are any of these more important, or better liked than my S? They all are, and none are. They are all a part of what I am.

I think my S comes in First Place. The only thing I can think of that I need more than my S is my exercise routine. (Not including living things.) I would croak if I couldn't exercise, but I REALLY love my S. A lot. I like to clean it and look at it and drive it and talk about it and get other people hooked on it and...

Kyras, you made me remember my dogs! How could I forget? However, they are "family" more than a hobby. I call the S2K my "hobby" because it isn't my daily driver, and I definitely don't need it. It's just for fun, and an excuse to annoy people on this forum.

Rob, you're right too. Well-rounded people have many interests. Some interests I stick with longer than others. Some of my friends are definite "A.D.D." candidates, and "flit" from one thing to the next.

The jury is still out as to whether a job can be a "hobby". I guess if the S2K can be, so can your profession.

I bought my S because it was doing so well at Nationals in Autocross, which is my favorite "hobby".

I'd have to say first these days, especially since I got involved in S2Ki and, more importantly, Vintage! But I enjoy other things, too. For instance, I like to play pool. I frequently do that on dates. Sometimes I win... But last weekend, I played with a new guy and found out that his best friend's uncle is a national billiards champion. Needless to say, I got skunked!!

My S is not a hobby, the only money I put into it is maintenance and gas and I use it as a daily. My first hobby is scale modeling, with an emphasis on painting 54mm figures (that's about 2.5 inches tall)
The first example, a Viking frome Eastern Europe, is my most recently completed figure.

And the Predator took a first in class at a national convention last summer.

I also do some Civil War reenactment with the 10th Massachusetts Voluntary Militia.

I can't say I have a hobby, and I'm just not a creative person. Between work, helping out with the granddaughter, getting things done at home, and of course goofing off on the computer, I keep busy enough.

I love to read, and spend time doing that. When the weather improves I walk for exercise, and I do enjoy working around the yard with Rick.

He is an avid gardner, starts our flowers and some vegtables from seed (in our kitchen) so we have a very nice yard, thanks to him.

I would have to say the "S" is sort of a hobby for both of us. Hobbies can take time and money, and the "S" does both of those things, but it's well worth it.

Unlike the old Jeep CJs that I used to constantly tinker with, there aren't enough modifications that can be done to my car to keep me busy for any length of time. So I don't consider it a hobby. For the first time in over twenty years, I'm not living alone, so I've switched to hobbies that Martha and I can both enjoy while not depriving myself of toys - home theater equipment and fishing. Martha could care less about the technical aspects or gadgets of home theater, but she does enjoy the end result. She also enjoys fishing on occasion, although she has little interest in the equipment itself.
