Default Grammy Awards

I use to live and die music. Hundreds of records and albums. But I tried four different times tonight to watch the Grammy Awards to "catch up" and instead all wanted to do was throw up. Most was just a lot noise to me.

I have that same problem. I try to listen, and once in a while I do find something, but for the most part it sounds like noise to me too.

Now I don't feel so bad, cause Rob, I know you are a music lover too.

Music is now all about marketing and packaging. Although I hate rap, at least it isn't so packaged.

At least Jessica Simpson got booed harsely (half time of a football conference championship?), that is a step in the right direction.

I mean how many reunion tours are the members of TLC going to have? I would guess zero.

I just watched "Ray". It is hard to image someone like him succeeding in today's marketing driven music industry, no matter his talent.

You guys are making me feel very old.

Remember this? "If it's too loud - you're too old?"

I'm a musician and I really dislike the great majority of pop music today - but some of it is really fun. It's sad that so many of the pop/rap/rock stars of today probably can't even read music much less know what a chord progression is but hey - it's not altogether different than when we were younger.

Do you guys work out? We go to the gym ~3x per week. That's pretty much where we hear "todays" music.

Re: the Simpson booing thing - it was Ashlee, not Jessica getting booed.

Marketing has always been part of the music industry. Payola, anyone?

Music is not a meritocracy. If it were - a bunch of these posers today would be unemployed rather than millionaires.

Good points.

Actually the show got better, for me, as it went on. . . when James Brown came out! Still got moves.

I love music but I couldn't take the Grammy Awards for more than 15 minutes -- what a load of crap.

Instead, I watched Ray on DVD.

It was a much better way to spend the evening!

Ray won! I don't follow this stuff but it didn't come as a big surprise after all the build up. Was this his last cut; or did they do it after he was in the grave?

I like lots of different kinds of music, except most rap doesn't do much for me. But I do love rock music, and listen to the rock station here in DC alot when I'm in the car. For instance, there is a song out now by the Killers that is great. They were nominated last night. On the other end of the spectrum, the Blind Boys of Alabama performed...I saw them in concert last year and loved them, too!
