There ought to be a law.....
How many times have you said, "There ought to be a law." Plenty, I bet.
Now, because this is the Vintage Forum and we are open to all ideas, here is your chance to suggest any law you can think of. I expect that we're going to see a whole lot of great new ideas and suggestions.
Lets hear them.

Make lobbying illegal.
I am currently consulting for a regulated power company. Looking at the "Code of Conduct" rules, I see all these rules for not giving government employees anything, EXCEPT the lobbyable ones. I figured you could just substitute lobbyable for the word "corrupt" and the document would read the same.

How about making it a law for politicians to uphold the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
I saw a great letter in the Philadelphia Inquirer this week. The person suggested giving Iraq our Constitution, as we're obviously done with it.

Hey there's laws on the books for all these already they're just not enforced.
And lobbyists are private not public that's why there is no reg's regarding them.
Or are there some out there that aren't enforced?
How about a law that makes public officials and employees legally liable for certain acts within their scope of office?

How about a law giving me the authority to ticket a police officer that does any one of the following:
1 - speeding when not on a call and I'm not speeding also
2 - using their lights and/or siren to get through a traffic jam or light, and then when clear turning them off (obviously not on a call)
3 - causing traffic backups by going the speed limit, when we all know that we should be going faster

The problem with trying to outlaw lobbying is that it is very hard to define. What exactly constitutes "lobbying"? If I take you out to lunch and happen to mention something that you have influence over, was I lobbying you? There is a much clearer definition for "bribe", but much harder to nail down "lobbying" or "influence peddling". Who was it that said (something like) "I cannot define pornography, but I can tell you when I see it." Lobbying is sort of the same.
We need law in regards to people using cell phones while driving at high speed. The other day, some one was weaving from lane to lane at high speed with total disregard for other drivers. I pulled to see the person was on cell phone. What a potential disaster!
