Why do you think that people stop posting here?
Well, as we all know there has been a blow up on this forum. The two C.O.'s that have served us well have both annoucned their resignations. (My personal thanks to Deb and Chaz for your service to the Vintage Community).
As we as a community go through this transistion, with new C.O.'s who ever they may be. It occurred to me that although a thread recently asked the question " What do you want Vintage to be". Perhaps, we should also ask the question: " Why do you think that people no longer post? or what do you not Vintage to be? " Valentine raised this question a week or so ago. That some old regulars have disappeared?
I know from first hand personal knowledge after SF04 why some of the people that attended where never seen of or heard from again on the Vintage forum. As I had e-mailed them and they explained why they did not care to be associated with what they experienced.
I was recently asked by someone why I have "not been around in the last few weeks?" This is not totally true: I have been lurking. But after being called on the carpet for being historically factual. I just do not need the grief. In this particular situation, I guess that one could make the argument either way. Was I nic picking a fact from thirty years ago? Or was I relying on my memory (which I backed up with links) to set the record straight? As, it is my perception, that too some people here perception is more important than facts.
I am not posting this to be disruptive. As I love this forum and the people in it. Even the people that I find myself 180* out of sync with on politcal issues. But still respect their opinions, and thier right to express them over my dead body to defend that right for them to express them.
I am posting this thread as a beacon for the new C.O.'s to take both the likes and dislikes into consideration. Not to take anything away from Deb or Chazmo. They did a GREAT job in my opinon. But, it is advice for the new people.
I mean this sincerely,
Matt
I don't know, Matt. Sometimes I will stay away for a weekend, and find it a little relieving if people have been going at it in threads... Oh, wait, maybe that's why people stopped posting. They got tired of the bickering going on or got their feelings hurt one too many times.
I don't know Matt, I think that there are lots of reasons that people stop posting here. I think its impossible to find any one or even a few to explain why this happens.
I think some people simply get tired of the forum and move on. I think that has been the case since there have been sites like this. And I think that is a very natural happening.
Some people come here expecting to find a site largely focused on the S2000 and cars in general and are disappointed to find that the scope of the Vintage forum is much broader than they expected.
Some come here for some information and leave when they've gotten all they need.
Some people simply can't justify spending all the time that it takes to become really involved here. Especially if they haven't come to a meet and met the participants face to face.
Some people don't like the subjects that we discuss here. Some don't like the politics, and some don't like the lack of it. Some love the rules, and some don't.
Some don't like the bickering, and some think it should be more lively and more like the "Corner".
There is a normal ebb and flow. Sometimes this forum is very busy and sometimes it is not.
Having been here a long time, as have you, I think its impossible to find any one reason or even a handful of reasons why people don't post here. I think it's a lot of things.
I found it very interesting that many contended that some of the regulars were driven away by the political posts yet in two anonymous polls, the vote was overwhelmingly in favor of allowing political threads to continue. I also find it very interesting how from time to time, the presence of one rotten apple can make it tough on everyone.
My point is that I don't think that there is a silver bullet. I don't think that there is any one thing that you can say is the reason that people don't post here anymore.

i agree with Rob and i also tend to think the time of year may have something to do with it. people have put their cars away and may surf s2ki less often.. also this place has been here 5 years and as Rick and others put it. how many times can you read a thread sbout the secret compartment.
i've also heard rumors that some think the board has degraded in the past few years. i tend to agree with this.
I do beleive that Vintage members still tend to still show a lot more respect and understanding towards each other than other sections.
That said ~ this site is the reason for my many friends in NE and around the county and even though my S is gone i love hanging out here, helping people and having fun

The reasons are likely to be as numerous and varied as the number of people who have come and gone.

I'm a newbie to the Vintage group - but it the short time I have been here I have found much more than just "another bunch of S2K owners". While I enjoy the tech discusisons - I also enjoy talking about life and our other pastimes.
