Did you know that when you use the word p0rn in a post using the correct letters, this is what you get $$$$$$. I couldn't believe it either. I thought we'd come further than that.

Now, to the other matter. No disrespect to Ms. Slusher intended here, but your note made me wonder why this caught your attention. Fond memories? An interest in black socks? HPH

 

Just looking at the New York Times obits when a name from the distant past caught my eye.

 

You may be right but I think it is more simple than that. I think there must be a list of prohibited words that get blanked out (in this case $$$$$$) when they appear in a post.

I just did an experiment via the "Preview Post" button and got the $$$$$ string like you did; further, the f-word became *****.

This could actually become an interesting code, if we're able to find out all of these substitution patterns -- if, say, I got fed up with one of those absurd arguments on the Politics board, I could just say "***** you all", and the message would be unambiguous. We'd have a new vocabulary, as it were.
