Default Hugh Thompson dies at the age of 62.

Hugh Thompson, the American helicopter pilot who saved the lives of innocent civilians at My Lai by landing his helicopter between the civilians and American gunfire, died today at the age of 62. Mr. Thompson later testified at the hearing and the court marshall of Lt. Calley.

I posted this here and not in the politics subforum because I think Mr. Thompson is a person and My Lai an event that everyone in Vintage will remember.

I also posted it here because Mr. Thompson's actions were proof that in spite of the horrors of the Vietnam war, there were Americans of high moral and ethical standards involved. Mr. Thompson's actions are a fine example to all of us. He had the courage to do what was right.

Yes, I agree. When we talk about courage and bravery, and true American heros, I think Mr. Thompson's name must be mentioned.

Remarkably, upon his return home, Mr. Thompson found himself being blamed for causing trouble. I guess things really haven't changed all that much.
