I'd like to know what others think of Nintendo NTDOY. I picked some up back in Late september but I think this has more room to go up considering there will be a bunch of new games coming next year and the fact that the DS and DS Lite are selling like Hot Cakes.

I think if this new Motion Controller becomes a big hit it could really propell the company's stock price.

I know its in Competition with Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's XBox 360 but Nintendo has been clever in trying to attract a few other segments specifically older people and people who have never played games as well as the little kids.

ok, so i put some thought to this and someone correct me if i am inaccurate as i am a stock rookie.

-i really want to buy this stock. it has seen a steady climb for about 8 months. however it is currently at its 52 week high which i don't like.

-it's not on the nasdaq

-it's main competitor is SNE ($43.25 vol. 1,310,500) and MSFT($30.16 vol. 61,257,300) BUT both of which are bundled into things outside of gaming.

-i would say a better measuring stick is GME ($56.60 vol. 1,380,270) BUT they have stores to run so probably more overhead

-NTDOY.PK (31.10 BUT only vol 155,408) relatively low volume, BUT no overhead.

All the current shipped units are sold, i guess i don't know how much a unit costs to make vs the $250 they sell for. i know it was more than a million units shipped before xmas so that is $250 million in the bank.

dunno what deals they have with software companies or anything about their debt if they have any.

hmmm. if someone has comments or info, much appreciated, but looks like i might be in for 100(i'm a poor rookie) shares come monday. i don't see why this thing can't go to at least $50 especially after they report earnings.

Even though I own shares I am not sure if this is or is not the time to add more.

I agree I generally do not like buying stocks when they are at a 52 week high.

After X-mas it may slow down or continue to ride high who knows for sure.

Your concerns are definitely legitimate regarding its competitors with Sony and Microsoft. I had those concerns as well, but when I read some information on how well sales of its hand helds (DS and DS Lite) were doing as well as the new console I took a chance and I was seeing a lot of people buying these game systems.

I even heard a few weeks ago that Nintedo sold 500,000 units of its DS Lite in less than a month which sounds to me that it is becoming like the GameBoy which from what I was told sold more units than any other game system ever.

The beauty of the DS Lite is that you can play the GameBoy advance games on it. That is one great thing about Nintendo is that they generally make all of their systems backward compatible.

NOt just consoles, but Nintendo also makes money on the games that they make "in house" such as Mario, Zelda etc. Nintedo makes a lot of their own titles unlike sony where most of its games are from 3rd party like Activision, EA Sports etc.

I don't know if you are Familiar with Peter Lynch's book one up on Wall Street when he talks about investing in what you know as well as going out and observing the company such as visiting the stores etc. Well in this case you can't visit Nintedo itself but you can see that numerous people are gobbling up their products in stores such as Walmart, Best Buy, Game Depot etc. which is a good thing no doubt

I hope you are right that it goes to $50.. I will only regret that I did not buy even more shares back in September.

You're trading OTC that's why there is no volume, there is almost no stock out there. You need to go to Japan to buy Nintendo, it doesn't trade on an exchange here. IMO the game market peaks just after Christmas and I wouldn't want to hold on to it past then.

I mean you bought it OTC not through an exchange. Nintendo trades on the Tokyo exchange and is priced in Yen. You would need to open an account in yen with a broker licensed to trade in Tokyo to buy it on the open market there in yen. When you buy it OTC you buy it investor to investor (your broker does), it's like a club which your broker belongs to that allows them to trade securities "over the counter" without the sort of requirements and restrictions of a listing service or exchange. You can buy almost anything OTC so long as there is a seller.

After-hours trading is done OTC.
